Daniel,
It sounds to me like you are installing the scripts in the wrong folder, and that an earlier version of the scripts that was installed by the automatic installer earlier is still in your user folder and is overriding the new scripts.
Go to the Start menu, then your all programs list and see if AdAware Scripts is in the list. If you find it, arrow right once to open the menu, arrow down to uninstall AdAware scripts and press enter and then follow the instructions to uninstall the scripts. If you have old scripts, this should remove them.
Dean

Dean,

Okay. Just to be sure I'd done everything correctly, I downloaded the .zip
file again,. Your automated installer function that I seem to remember
didn't appear, so I simply used Power Archiver to select and extract all the
files to c:\documents and settings\administrative\application data\freedom
scientific\jaws\60\settings\enu, as before.

Then I launched AdAware, opened the Script manager by pressing insert F2,
then arrowing to script manager and hitting enter. i listened to make sure
it was the ad-aware.jss file that was loaded, and pressed control s, heard
the recompile was done, and exited with alt F4.

I exited AdAware and relaunched it, just in case that might have been a
necessary step. Then I ran a scan.

When the scan finished, announcing 1 object, I was on the test results
screen.I pressed control shift l, but nothing happened. I pressed tab, and
heard "list view." So I brought up the context menu, chose select all, then
pressed control n for Next.

Eight objects were going to be removed (why eight, I wondered, if the
results screen said it found only one? Maybe that was a critical object and
the other seven were innocuous or whatever they're called?) I pressed okay,
and that was that.

There's how it worked for me. Luckily, this is okay, because I've always
just let the program remove all objects, which I think used to appear in one
list, with critical and uncritical not in different lists. And I always
used Mark All. So essentially, I guess that's what I'm doing here. Works
for me. Sorry not to be able to explain the script problem any more
helpfully, though.

Daniel,
I'm wondering if you really have the very latest set of scripts. The date on
the Ad-aware.jss file should be 8/1/2005.
Here's the direct download link if you need it.
http://www.accessibleprograms.com/AdAware/AdAware62_1.1beta.zip
These scripts are not packaged with the automatic installer, they are in a
zip archive.
When you press control+shift+l at the end of a scan you should hear one of 2
things:
1 Critical objects tab, if the Critical objects tab was successfully found.
or
2 Critical objects tab not found, if the Critical objects tab could not be
found.
If you don't hear either one of those messages, you don't have the latest
scripts.
Dean

P.S. But because this is so mystifying, I'd like, as a control, to simply
download the Beta scripts again, run the automated install routine, and
check to see if they're being directed where they should be. What's the
link for the download, again?

Are you sure that the scripts were extracted to the right folder?

I wonder if the script made sure that add aware was maximized? If that might do the trick?

Dean,
yes, I used those newest scripts you just made available. I just ran a
scan
as you suggest below, but control shift l doesn't produce the hoped-for
result. No matter what I do, tab, shift tab, arrow, there's a silent
place
or two, and if I press control M I hear that it isn't available, I must
press shift tab to get to the scan summary button and then right arrow,
etc.

But shift tabbing only brings me to a silent screen element, and
playing
with the arrow keys doesn't take me anywhere from that silent place,
either,
   just more silence.

Daniel,
I assume you used the AdAware scripts 1.1 beta. Well, I created a new
script
in that version just in case this happened.
Could you run a scan again, and when you get to the last screen of the
scan
press
control+shift+l.
This should switch you to the critical objects tab and place the cursor
on
the critical objects list view. You can then press control+m to mark
all
spyware. Let me know if it works.
