Didn't realize they had told you this was fixed. must have missed that part. I
certainly agree with you then. As a programmer of less complex things then
jaws, I recognize they don't seem to be doing their jobs to the fullist.

Sean,

I would agree with your comments if we were talking about an unknown bug,
but this was already a documented issue, which I had brought to the
attention of Freedom Scientific technical support. I was told that the
programmers would include a fix for it in 6.1.

I used to be a programmer at Kennedy Space Center, so I am familiar with
proper software development procedures. When you are coding for a known bug,
you must test the modified program to see if the problem has been resolved.
Testing is an integral part of the programmer's job. You don't just generate
code and deliver it to the end-user without testing it first.

The FS tech person told me that the programmers included a fix for this
specific bug, but it was only after I repeatedly asked him to test it on a
computer, that he did so. That's when he discovered that it was still there
in JFW 6.1. This is pretty strong evidence that nobody at FS bothered to
test the modified program to verify that the known problem was resolved.

Regards,

Alan

The problem here is you're being given an honest answer. Programmers can't
test

everything, the user will find some bugs. The programmer should never say and

tell tech support to say you have to test that out, unless it's bata or you
can

access the source code. There is a new feature allowing you to disable style

sheets under the personalized settings. According to the little feature
page,

this may fix some problems.

Subject: 6.1 causes Internet Explorer to crash

Hello listers,

The bug in JFW 6.0 which causes Internet Explorer to crash on certain web

sites has not been fixed in version 6.1.

For example, if you go to

http://www.optionsxpress.com

Click on the log-in link, and after entering a user name and password (you

can make it up for testing purposes) after you hit the secure log-in button,

Internet Explorer will terminate and give an error message.

After emailing FS tech support to ask if this bug was fixed in version 6.1,

I received a vague reply. I was informed that it was worked on, and that I

should download and test it out. (Gee...isn't testing the programmer's

responsibility?) I wrote back to that FS tech, explaining that it would take

me about 4 hours to download that 40 mb file, and I asked him to take a

minute to test it out on the web site I mentioned above. He finally did test

it, and discovered that the bug has not been fixed. No wonder 6.1 has all

these bugs...the programmers are just writing the code and relying on the

end-user to find the bugs!
