Hi Chris,

That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Apologies Don, the message was directed at Yardbird in response to his
comment about not changing anything in the document but being prompted
after printing. You will not have been prompted after printing if you
do not have the 'Update Fields' check-box checked in the Print tab under
the Tools, Options menu.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,

Actually, I didn't print the document. All I did was Copy some
selected text to the clipboard and, as I wrote to Yardbird earlier, this
message does not appear when I use JAWS 8 or earlier versions.
Incidentally, I just tried printing a document and I did not get the
message when I exited after printing.

   Regards,

   Don

The reason Word asks if you want to save changes after you have only
printed a document is because the Print Date property is updated, so
you
do right to save the document when prompted, otherwise this property
would not contain a true value. This is available to you as a field
which you can include on page footers etc, via the insert menu.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Don,

I sympathize with the first problem you describe, and hope your report
was taken note of at FS. Did they say they'd been told of it before?
Did
they appear to be logging it as a consumer report? They should have.

But as for the second, I kind of doubt that's a Jaws problem. I think
it's just Windows and Word. There are several scenarios in which Word
asks me if I want to save before closing a document and/or exiting
Word,
not all of them logical. The one about asking if you wish to retain
what
you've copied to the clipboard is a reasonable, considerate Windows
thing just checking prudently if you're sure you don't need that
material that's being held in RAM for the clipboard anymore. That
isn't
a mistaken message.

As for Word asking if you want to save before closing a document or
exiting, when you don't think you've done anything to change it, so
why
should you be asked whether you want to save, well, I think that's a
peculiarity of Word that must be borne with . For instance, if I am in
a
Word document that's saved already, and I do nothing while it's open
except to print it on my printer, inevitably I'm asked if I wish to
save
changes on the way out. What changes, I mumble, but then press control
s
just in case there's something going on I don't understand and I'll
be
sorry if I don't. How much trouble is it, after all. It's mostly the
seeming illogicality that's annoying, so far as I can see.

So don't worry about complaint Number 2. And good luck with the first
one, which I haven't encountered yet, but I just don't happen to have
had occasion to copy something selectively from one email to another
very often.

Subject: 2 more problems with JAWS 9

Hi all,

I have discovered 2 more problems with JAWS 9:

Firstly, with Outlook Express, if I try to Copy and Paste an article
from
the body of an E-mail message into a new E-mail message to send to
someone,
it does not come out as text. Instead, I get links, end links, etc.,
all
of
which make the article difficult to read with a screen reader. I
contacted
FS about this and they said there is no fix right now. I wish I could
do
what I can do in Internet Explorer, which is to change the Cursor
Options
under the Tree View you get by pressing Insert v; unfortunately, they
told
me that option is only available in IE at this time.

Secondly, in MS Word, if I select some text in a document that was
already created and Copy it to the clipboard, then, when I exit Word,
it
asks if I want to save the changes I have made to the document. Of
course, I
haven't made any changes. However, if I press Control s at some point
before
I select and Copy some text to the clipboard, then I don't get that
message;
go figure!
