[jawsscripts] Re: WordCommon.jss

I'm the one who initially said to look in WordCommon.jss for the
definition of the function (SelCtxFlag or something like that,
wasn't it?). I would have said something in this thread many hours
ago, but I was working at a contract site and couldn't take time
to investigate properly.

WordCommon.jss does indeed attempt to load a file with an hsh
extension, and that file is indeed not in the JAWS 8, and probably
JAWS 9, distribution. I can only assume that the .hsh file is hidden
for some reason. Freedom Scientific publishes most but not all script
source code; for example, for a long time, word.jsb has not had a
corresponding word.jss. It might be an oversight at FS to publish a
jss file that depends on a non-published jsh, or hsh, file; but
nevertheless, that's apparently what happened.

So you can't compile WordCommon.jss. My question, though, is why you
would need to. You already have WordCommon.jsb anyway. <grin>

Apologies if I missed a major point or two in the thread. I'm
actually pretty sure I did. I'm writing anyway though because it
sounds like people are thinking the files on the system in question
are messed up somehow. I think they're ok; it's just that there's one
file that's not there and never was.

Well of course they will ask you to uninstall and reinstall the
software. The first step to any tech support is to not overlook the
obvious. When I had a job as tech support for an ISP, I actually had
a guy that all that was wrong was he was placing the CD in the drive
upside down. As a tech support worker you have to eliminate all of
the obvious problem causes first. In the case of Windows many things
can corrupt files so you have to have the customer follow a procedure
to be able to pinpoint the problem. In your case it could be a number
of things, spyware, data being written to a bad sector that Windows
has not mapped out, Word itself being corrupt, a fragmented disk drive
etc. But in every case you have to find the cause before you can find
the fix. That is why they send you through what seems like a mundane
   and useless procedure.

is [3]support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx useful at all in such situations
to report these things? or will they just tell the sttandard thing of
reinstall/repair jaws etc? even though one is sure one has done
nothing themselves to bring about these changes, and that logic would
indicate something deeper is going on that might need proper
investigation to really get to the bottom of?

I to am having script calls that are invalid as well. I have not
changed, deleted or renamed any of the scripts and it appears that
problem is getting worse. I also cannot perform the Jaws update and
am told that I have deleted or renamed a script or function, again,
   not true. What's going on?

I have been having trouble with word giving me an invalid function
message when I bring it up. I asked about it on the list a few days
ago and someone told me that the function was defined in
Wordcommon.jss. I found it defined in there but Wordcommon.jss won't
compile because it has an invalid include for Word.hsh. I don't see
any source files named word.* on my machine and I don't think HSH is a
valid extension. Anyone got any ideas as to what goes there?
