[jawsscripts] Re: Table headers

Hello.

 

The magic he is looking for is called user intervention.  This can be very 
useful if you visit a website and need to use a table that is not marked 
properly very often.  I envision it working similar to marking row headers and 
column headers in Microsoft Excel.  I have no idea if it can be done are not.

 

I hope this clarifies what the original poster is asking for.

    If the html is incorrect,

how would any screen reader, or browser be able  to

tell where the headers or rows are?

Yes, JAWS understands the HTML markup of table headers correctly, but 
there are tables where the markup is incorrect, and also tables where I 
would like to be able to select which rows/columns are the header ones, 
regardless of the HTML markup.

JAWS is supposed to understand HTML markup of table headers in
accordance with W3C accessibility guidelines.  If you know such markup
exists in a table but JAWS is not reading the headers correctly, I
suggest submitting a problem report to Freedom Scientific.
