Good question, Pratik. Yes, the Homer Control+F command replaces that
of Word. In the great majority of cases, I think one wants to do simple
text searches, and this efficiency is significantly aided by a quick
dialog that lets one enter such text, press Enter, and then having the
matching line read -- the same behavior as JAWS with Internet Explorer.
Also, Control+Shift+F does a reverse find, rather than having to tab to
a checkbox or radio button to reverse direction. The Windows
conventional F3 and Shift+F3 keys are available for repeat searches as
well.
The simplest way of getting the full featured Word dialog is to press
Control+Semicolon before Control+F. Control+Semicolon is a home row
version of the Insert+3 key to pass a key through to the application (that
key is still available, too). The Find dialog is also part of the Word
search and replace dialog, Control+H. The Homer Control+R key is an
alternate replace dialog, as is Control+Shift+R for replace with regular
expression.
By design, these scripts make some trade offs against the traditional Word
interface. I want to minimize these, unless I think a strong case for
better usability can be made by implementing alternative approaches via a
smart coupling of JAWS scripting with the Word object model. Please
continue to provide feedback to help me understand the trade offs and try
to optimally balance them.
Cheers,
Jamal
