[jawsscripts] Re: Intro

Hi and welcome to the list. I was a Computer Architect at Lockheed Martin.
I have been on disability for over ten years and am forgetting more each
day!

I recently purchased Image for Windows from Terabyte Unlimited.
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com

It also comes with Image for DOS and Image for Linux. If you want to
perform a restore without sighted assistance, you can easily create a DOS
boot CD that contains Image for DOS and a batch file that can be easily
typed in without assistance. If you want, you could call it autoexec.bat,
so the restore will happen automatically. Of course the restore command,
with all its parameters, including the image filename would be hard coded.
Image for DOS can
create the recovery CD that will boot and have a copy of Image for DOS that
has been registered with it's product key. Just add the batch file.

I have already restored a damaged disk using the standard Image for Linux
recovery CD that it can create. It took less than 5 minutes for my daughter
to go through the dialogs and start the restore. The CD is setup to be able
to see all internal partitions of all types, external drives, and network
drives.

I am currently attempting to create a USB thumb drive that contains Vinux
that includes disk repair tools and Image for Linux. Vinux is a
distribution of
Ubuntu customized for the blind and visually impaired. It has several
screen readers and magnification systems preconfigured. It starts talking
as soon as it boots! I have been playing with Vinux 1.4 in a VM Ware window
and as a live CD. . Adding Image for Linux is a breeze, but not useful
unless Vinux is installed on a bootable partition or from a USB thumb drive
with U3! The Image for Linux seems to be a crude console type application
with dialog controls.
Orca on Vinux 1.4 has some difficulty reliably reading the controls.

I downloaded an expanded Vinux 1.5 + DVD ISO image. It was just posted this
week. It contains
more[applacations, including audio, video and DVD players. It also has more
screen readers that sound more suited to Image for Linux.

Get vinux at:
http://www.vinux.org.uk

I need to buy a U3 USB thumb drive. I want to get a better understanding of
how U3 makes a difference in Linux. I will probably order from Amazon
today.

I also had a great idea for a duel boot laptop. I have a Dell Inspironn
1525 that came with instant Media Direct to play DVDs without starting
Windows. It has a separate button to start Media Direct from another small
2.6 GB partition. I have not or ever will use this feature. I would love to
be able to load Vinux on this partition! I would prefer not to have to add
a boot manager, boot menu, or effect the C drive if possible. Any ideas or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
