hello folks,
just a thought that occurred during my reading of these posts, could there
be a variance in how jaws was set up when loaded? such as an "for all users"
setting on one install, and a "for this user only" for the other?
or maybe it's based on the user that installed its permissions?

Just to clarify:
My problem is that I did not have access to the punctuation list at all.
Thanks.

Hi,
I think that if you want to verify that the Customize Punctuation settings
only affect the synthesizer you are using, you can look at the JCF file.
Default.jcf if you started there or application.jcf, where application is
a
program on your computer. Look at the various section names in brackets.
Thanks.

I have been wondering about this ever since Jim brought it up the first
time. I have only just tested it, but so far it works for me. If you
are using the SayAll to test this, make sure that you are using the
synthesizer that was active when you adjusted the settings. Apparently
these adjustments effect only the synthesizer that was active at the
time that the settings were changed.
I will include the help text taken from the config manager punctuation
settings dialogue.
Select the punctuation symbol to modify from this list. To change how
JAWS speaks the
symbol, press F2. To change the level at which JAWS speaks
the symbol, press SPACEBAR. The symbol is always announced
at and above the specified punctuation level. For example,
setting a symbol to none means that JAWS always speaks it.
In addition, if you want a symbol to not be spoken, you must first
set the default punctuation to Most or lower and then, set the level
for the character to be silenced to All. These changes only
affect the active synthesizer.

I believe I can. I tried to tell JAWS not to speak the greater than (>)
symbol by using this feature, but it didn't honour the setting. I even
tried changing the punctuation level, but it again didn't honour the
setting. The only workaround was to make an entry in the dictionary
manager, replacing the greater than (>) with a space. This is with JAWS
8 build 423.

Hi Folks:
I am finding that, in the latest build of JAWS 8, the "customize
punctuation" options are not working.
Can anyone verify whether or not this is indeed the case?
Thanks all over the place gang.
