That is indeed an option.  However, I would like to programmatically get to
the link of interest.

  Why not write a simple script to combine the two actions you described? 
There are JAWS script functions RouteJAWSToPC() and LeftMouseButton().  You 
would have to include the latter function twice, possibly with a Pause() in 
between.  As long as you started with the PC cursor on the link of interest,

you would then only have to press one hot key to activate it.
