hmmm, hope these are what you want,.
I found a check box for announce tables in:
configuration manager, set options menu, text processing.
and a check box for lists is in html options, lists and tables tab.
as far as I can get from your apostrophe problem, the "find and replace" suggestion would seem to be your best bet, especially since you said this was in documents that had been converted and so this was a mistake in the scanning, not in jaws itself, but you can always turn punctuation to none if you wish in the jaws voices settings , or just in the application scripts so it's not universal.

Yes, I should have made it clear in my message that I know how to make the
changes temporarily.  I just can't figure out how to do it in the
configuration manager in a more permanent way.

Jaws key + V while in one of those apps.

Hit the P key so until it goes down to 'punctuation', and change the level
using the space bar key.
Then hit the letter T until it comes to Table announcement, and do the same. 

Then hit enter and it should save the verbosity settings.

I seem to have a situation in which jaws continually speaks apostrophe's.
This particularly happens when some scanned materials show quotes as
apostrophe's and therefore there are two of them in a row.  I have tried
every setting I can think of and have only found success by going to the
dictionary and redefining the apostrophe as a space.  Unfortunately, this
replaces all apostrophe's in documents with spaces which isn't a
particularly helpful outcome.

Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution?

I'm using jaws 8.0.2173.  Speech is controled by jaws.  This problem
happens
with rtf, txt and html documents.

On another subject.  I can't seem to find the place to turn off
identification of tables and lists in the configuration manager.  What am
I
missing?
