Hi Sherri --
There are 4 voices that you configure in the voice options for jaws. The 4
are pc voice -- the one you listen to most; jaws cursor voice -- obvious;
keyboard voice, which announces the keys if you have it set up to announce
keys; and message voice, which is what jaws speaks when there is a dialog or
message from windows.
If you just go to the options/voices menu and customize the voices you will
find them. The default voice may have changed for jaws, I don't know, but I
always configure the voices the way I like them before doing anything else.
Is the voice you are hearing a slow voice or can it be speeded up like
eloquence usually is capable of? If it can be made fast it probably is not a
SAPI5 voice, but an eloquence voice.
Anyway, have fun.

I just installed Jaws 9 on my computer which is using Windows XP home =
and Outlook Express. I also have a new disk drive and had the people =
that installed it put Microsoft Office 2003 on the computer as well. Any =
time I use the read command (insert-down arrow), no matter what program =
I'm in, it reads in this strange slow old-man-sounding voice. I do not =
think it is a jaws voice. They may have set it up for Narrator to kick =
in, but that is just a theory. It seems to do this when I use that =
command no matter what program I am in. How can I stop this and just =
have it read in the usual elloquence voice? Any help would be =
appreciated and thanks in advance.
Sherri
