[JAWSLite] Re: narrator

Hi,
A couple of additional suggestions for fixing the issue: Try to delete JAWS,
then run a registry repair program such as RegSupreme and then install JAWS
again. If it does not work, from your computer connected to the internet,
download the appropriate video drivers and install them manually with the
assistance of sighted person and then try installing Video Interscept.
About the wireless connection, I don't remember exactly, but I think with
the help of the Wireless Wizard in Windows XP, you could generate a script
file which automatically can configure your machine to connect to the
Internet, but I am not 100 per cent sure.
Anyway, happy holidays and Merry Christmas!

a couple of problems -- first, I already tried a repair of jaws and that
failed. I then grabbed a copy of the jaws9 setup to install and that failed
to run because of the display chain, which apparently is needed to be
correct for jaws to run. Third, I tried updating the drivers, but I got to a

point where it wanted to know where to find the latest driver, and I did not

know how to proceed, since (1) I have no cd or pathname to give it, and (2)
I have no connection to the internet on this machine. I am trying to get a
connection by copying my security key to the computer and pasting that in
where it asks for my wireless password/key, but jaws is not functioning to
the point where I can copy anad paste the digits of the key. In fact, jaws
is unable to select or copy or paste anything, file or text.
I suppose I could take and plug my laptop directly into the modem, if I
really need to get on the internet, but I am inclined to wait until tomorrow

and see what FS has to say.
I am thinking this whole thing is due to malware. I have 3 messengers
installed which are constantly updating and I have not been careful enough
to protect against dangerous sources of malware -- but then, any connection
to the internet is probably dangerous...
Anyway, thanks. Been there, tried that.
Merry Christmas by the way!

It sounds to me like JAWS wasn't fully installed. If you have a Toshiba
laptop then I doubt that your video drivers are the problem. However, it
might be a good idea to check for updated drivers for your video card before
doing anything else. If the driver updating doesn't solve the problem and
if the display chaining manager is unable to fix the problem, then try to
either do a JAWS repair or uninstall JAWS and reinstall. A repair or
reinstallation might fix corrupted or damaged files.

Maintenance Setup allows you to make changes or corrections to the currently
installed version of JAWS. To start Maintenance Setup, insert your JAWS
program CD into your CD drive and choose the JAWS Setup button. If you
downloaded JAWS from Freedom Scientific.com, navigate to the folder where
you saved the file, select it, and press ENTER. You will get three choices:
modify, repair and remove. If you want to try a repair then press enter on
the repair button and follow the prompts. After restarting your computer if
the problem continues then you might want to uninstall JAWS and reinstall.
If no success after doing those things you probably want to call FS tech
support.

To update your video drivers do the following:

If your Toshiba has a pause key then press Windows key with pause to get
into the system properties. If you have Windows XP then after using the
keystroke tab to the page tabs and use right arrow to move to the hardware
tab. Then tab to device manager button and press enter. Tab to the list of
devices on your system and arrow down to display. Right arrow to open the
display choice if it is closed. Down arrow to your device. Tab to get to
the properties for the display device and press enter. Tab to the page tabs
and right arrow to the driver page tab. Once there use your tab key to move
to the update driver button and press enter. Follow the updating process
given. If you do not have a pause key then open the control panel, move to
the system choice and press enter.

If you have Vista then after using the Windows key-pause keystroke then tab
to device manager link and press enter. If you do not have a pause key then
open control panel from the start menu, type in device manager in the search
box and tab to the device manager link. Press enter on the link. Tab to
the device list and down arrow to the display devices. Open display devices
by using right arrow and arrow down to the device to be updated. Press
enter on the device name to open the properties. Tab to the page tabs and
right arrow to the driver page and tab to the driver update button. Press
enter on the button and follow the prompts.

Merry Christmas. I hope you get the issue resolved.
