Have you tried going back to your last restore point and restoring the
computer from there? If you did so, what kind of response did you get?

But it worked fine for a year coinciding with 3 messengers, including WLM,
but when I installed a more recent version of WLM, that is when the
problem
started.
I don't think there is an incompatibility with the drivers (it is a
toshiba
laptop), since it did work before.

Now that is one perplex problem. Would have to give FS a call for
that one, because it just may not be a compatible video that likes jaws.

Hi all --
I am still having problems with my old laptop having the video capture or
driver or whatever it is software not working. Jaws is silent and there is
text on the screen that there is a problem with a chain of video software,
and on a tip from someone on this list I ran the program to repair the
problem in the tools menu of program files\jaws
This program fails for some unknown reason -- says it can't find the
driver
to install it. I have been using sighted assistance to resolve this
problem, however my friends are not always available, so I tried using
narrator, with the following surprising result.
I typed windows+U to invoke the utility manager, thinking narrator would
come up speaking like it always used to, but it failed. I grabbed my
sighted family member at hand and she said I was in a dialog to set
options
for narrator, which I did, checking the box to start narrator when utility
manager started, but this didn't work.
I then took the alternate approach of going to the run dialog in the start
menu and typing "narrator". This, believe it or not, started up jaws,
almost. Eloquence came up in the voice and rate I normally have jaws set
to, but only some of the jaws navigation commands work.
Questions:
* why does "narrator" invoke jaws?
* why doesn't the fix in the tools menu provided by Freedom Scientific
work
to fix the display chain?
* how do I proceed???
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.
