Huh... I saw that you had used the i but I ignored it because it doesn't
seem to matter. Does that matter on your machine? On my machine, the 2
lines below sound exactly the same:
SakHahtmi
sack hot me
I'll bet this is not a jaws issue but an Elloquence issue. I looked at the
jaws default dictionary and there are no words in it that fix emphasis. But
there must be a way for the system as a whole to deal with this issue. For
example, notice the prononciation of the word 'content' in the sentence
below:
I am content with the content of this sentence.
If you move the cursor over that sentence one word at a time, it
mispronounces the first use of the word 'content'. But when it reads the
sentence as a whole, it pronounces it correctly. So maybe this is not a jaws
issue but a text to speech engine issue.
Wow, can you imagine what it must be like writing a speech engine? It must
have to understand sentence structure.

Check letter by letter what I wrote. The second syllable is emphasized,
and I changed the spelling.

I don't think capitalization matters for emphasis. It makes jaws
pronounce
things as if they're seperate words though. The following 2 lines sound
exactly the same for my installation of jaws:
sakHotMe
sak hot me
As I mentioned, this is closer than sakhotme, which jaws says almost
like
sackhim. But it's still not right.

Sometimes uppercasing the first syllable that you want emphasized
works,
like SakHahtmi.
Note: I had to change the "me" to "mi" for that sound.

Subject: [JAWSLite] jaws dictionary and sylable emphasis
Is there a way to have jaws emphasize a sylable when adding a word to
the
dictionary?
Say I have a 3 sylable word and I want the emphasis on the second
sylable.
Can I somehow tell jaws to emphasize the 2nd sylable? Actually, the
word
I'm
dealing with is a name, Sakhatme. It should be said 'sack hot me" with
the
emphasis on the second sylable. Like 'sack HOT! me".
Just telling jaws to pronounce the word as if it's "sack hot me"
helped.
But
it would be nice to get it right so that I will start saying it right
myself. Out of force of habit, I sometimes mispronouce this name when
I'm
talking to the actual person.
