[JAWSLite] jaws crashing

Hi--I'm using jaws9 on an xp laptop.
Over the past few days I've started getting spurious error tones from my 
computer when I am not typing anything -- the kind of error tones you get 
when you hit a key that is invalid.  The most recent episode was this 
morning -- I was awake in bed and my computer started firing off these error 
tones as if I was on the keyboard.  I went to the computer and tried typing 
a few things, and after only a few keystrokes jaws crashed, which it has 
been doing a lot lately, and so I reloaded jaws with my hotkey. the spurious 
tones continued even after that and jaws crashed again. I thought the usb 
port my keyboard was plugged into might be bad, so I tried switching that 
and nothing changed.
I had another laptop that did this before the motherboard went belly-up so I 
am rather worried.  Could someone with more hardware savvy tell me what else 
could be the problem? I would be suspicious if I were using a wireless 
keyboard, but my keyboard is wired.
My next move is to download another copy of jaws and reinstall it.
Any help much appreciated.
