My preference is to install the entire CD on the hard drive.

Yes, but are you simply trying to copy music off of an audio CD, or
actually install software off of a data CD as opposed to simply running it
off of the CD?
Which CD/software/type of content does it contain?
Also, if it's a CD that plays music, but windows media player won't 'rip'
it, it might be because it actually simply already contains audio files
(as opposed to being an audio CD), in which case, if you simply browse
thereto, you should be able to copy the files off of it and put them
somewhere else.
Sorry, but I'm still not 100% sure exactly what action you're actually
trying to carry out.
Stay well

Right now I'm using it but I want to install it on my computer. It's
starting to look like I wont be able to install a protected CD on my
machine so I'm working with someone to copy sections of it into my
documents folder.

Are you actually trying to copy the data/installation CD? Or just
run/use it?
Firstly, what operating system are you running?
If you merely want to access/browse/backup the contents thereof, you can
merely use the Windows key + E combination to bring up Windows Explorer,
and it should open up on the treeview on the left, where you can simply
arrow down a couple of times until you are actually on the CD drive,
then tab over to the contents on the right, and do whatever.
Alternatively, I think that if you hit the context menu key/shift + F10
while on the item on the left, you would also get some extra options
relating to what you want to do with the contents thereof.
OTOH, if you are running, for example, Win XP Pro, you can simply copy
the full contents of the disk onto your hard drive (into their own
folder created using the file menu|new option), then simply use windows
explorer to then copy and paste them onto a new blank CD, and when you
then open that drive, the actual CD writing wizard will popup and you
can carry on from there.
Just wasn't really sure what you were trying to achieve, which is why
I've gone into a little bit of detail here

why don't you try it by installing with the help of nero express? I
guess they might have given with your cd writer itself.

I got a CD of data that I need and tried installing it last night
but Windows media player wouldn't burn it into the program. I did
everything I was supposed to do and heard the tab ask if I wanted to
rip, burn etc. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this? Thanks, Judith
