[JAWSLite] Re: got the Schwans site working

I doubt the defrag did much to speed up your PC. I think it was much
more likely that cleaning up your PC was what caused the speed up. Also,
removing files from your PC isn't going to speed it up at all, unless
you're running low on disk space.

IMHO, the most important thing to do to keep your PC running efficiently
is to run Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk
cleanup. I try to do this weekly. I also shut down every process I can
before doing this. I also use a program like EasyCleaner from
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm to remove the
unnecessary files from my PC and clean the registry. After doing this,
but much less frequently, I'll do a disk defrag. Note that there are
quite a few people who don't think modern filesystems need to be
defragmented and that in fact it only serves to add wear and tear to
your hard drive. IMHO, defraging your hard drive is a good habit to get
into, but it doesn't typically need to be done weekly. I try not to go
too long before defrags though, like monthly, since the longer you go
between defraging your hard drive, the longer it'll take.

Another thing that's good to do periodically is to go through your
installed applications and remove those you know you don't need anymore.
It's also a good idea to use msconfig to look at what's getting started
automatically and keep those things you don't need from running
automatically.

I hope this helps.
