[JAWSLite] caps lock

Hi all --
I have the weirdest problem today
Jaws is suddenly in a state where it indicates that caps lock is off, but 
speaks the characters as if it is on.
Is this message coming through in all caps?
I have the laptop keyboard layout specified so caps lock is used as the jaws 
key, and tapping it twice rapidly toggles the caps lock. But somehow this 
morning it has gotten into a weird state.
Please help if you have any ideas what I can do.
I am using jaws 8
