hi folks, sorry I got this out so late, but had other things going on.
I just checked give away of the day, and found an updated version of a
CD/DVD/HDDVD/Blueray

burning package that I have there last version and it works great, very

StarBurn is my favorite free DVD burning software, I always use it to burn
video to DVD,

thanks GAOTD. But it's pity that it cannot burn ISO file to DVD, any one know

Improved to make it more user friendly. Just pay strict attention during the

Downloaded and installed on XP-pro SP3 with no problems.

The instructions say the registration number will be sent by e-mail after
installation

however I received no e-mail.

After reopening the program I see that it is already registered.

What's the big giveaway here? The only difference between each version

(Free,Professional,Enterprise) is the different levels in the Support their
plans (Silver,

Gold ,Platinum). According to GAOTD's "Terms and conditions" #1. No free
technical support.

So, I don't see any advantages in downloading any other than the Free version.

I haven't downloaded version 11 yet but I have StarBurn version 10 and it can
burn ISO

images to DVD. I can't imagine they would remove that basic burning feature in
version 11.

Win Vista.
Uninstalled version 10. Installed fine version 11.
When I run starburn as admin it says "licensed to GAOTD user", when I run it as
non-admin

user it says "you have 30 days left".
Uninstalled version 11 and ran setup agian, nothing changed.
Anyone alse facing this problem?

Don't Miss this one!
This was one of my all time favorite GAOTD items! Works great. Previously gave
away v 10.

Great to see new version today!!!
Whenever I install a new program over an old program, for safety I ALWAYS
uninstall the

previous version. And I use Revo Uninstaller to do it because it removes traces
of program

left behind from previous version. (google the software, it is free & well
worth it!)
Then, after using Revo, I install the new version. One exception to
uninstalling: Don't do

it if you are installing an "upgrade" where they want to check to see if you
actually own

the previous version.
Often uninstalling previous version is not necessary. But there are a few cases
where

problems do arise from previous versions. Failure to uninstall a .dll file,
etc. Safe thing

to do is uninstall first.

The last few times this software was offered here, the asking price was about

checking their website, I can't find any program with that high a price tag -

So the program (Help -> About) says StarBurn Version 11.

However, if you go to the developer's website (you can access it via the link

software description above - "Homepage") it lists Version 10.5 as for sale.

So are we getting a version they are not even selling yet or.?

If you go under Help -> About you will see that the program says "StarBurn
Version 11".

However, on the developer's website, listed as "Homepage" above, it lists
Version 10.5 as

for sale.

So either we are getting a version that they are not selling yet or.

To #7 (and #19/#20 for his help) to create an ISO you have to use the Create
Image process.

Not as obvious as in other systems where you create DVD or Image via the same
process.

the last version of this was a good one but i did down load this for some of
the added

features ( i think i have downloaded this program 3 or maybe even four times
from here and

they all worked well on vista home premium 64 bit and they seem to get better
and better )
just got done downloading the windoze 7 beta and will burn it tomorrow (at a
slow speed) and

see how it goes ( the last 4 or 5 images that i burn i used the last version of
this program

and they all worked )
might post more comments tomorrow on how it works

Very nice. Great improvement over previous version.

Small remark to the developers:

Thanks for listening to our comments and adding drag 'n drop capability.
However, you have

only added proper drag 'n drip in the data burn wizard in expert mode. Without
the expert

mode you only get one pane and drag 'n drop only works for entire folders and
not for files.

Furthermore drag 'n drop doesn't yet work in the other wizards.

I would also like to see support for unicode characters in different languages.
At the

moment I can't even drag in a folder with a foreign name in the none expert
mode. (unicode

seems to be supported in expert mode).

You are definitely on the right track (no pan intended (-:), but we would like
to see your

software becoming just perfect, so keep up the good job.

GREAT software, had installed the last version a while back, lost it and
actually purchased

it as it was reliable and simple and even my gran uses it.

TIP: check the installation dialogs carefully, at the last prompt, it asks to
set the

homepage, search page and add some other stuff, possibly to try to generate
some coin from

the "free" software.

I had not been on GAOTD for quite some time so seeing this again as my welcome
back was

rather nice after missing out on a "screensaver" yesterday (Whoopee) :-P

Really like this program, it has saved my behind in the past when Nero would
mess up. Had

troubles on this XP install though. Uninstalled v10, ran setup but splash
screen came up

saying 30 days left with no option for registering. Uninstalled and reinstalled
again, this

time splash screen says its registered. So, try, try again.

Donloaded and installed no problem on Windows 7 beta, but when tried runnen got
error

message:

SPTD driver is not installed! Please reboot your PC after StarBurn installation

I tried rebooting, but when running received same message.

There are those that seem to like this program, but I'm not one of them. The
things I found

wrong about it, remain wrong! Take for example the Data Burner, would anyone
here like to

tell me how to restore data or an ISO image after its been burned to disc?
Alternatively,

where can a user find that information in the Help file? How about cutting
mp3's on DVD's?

It's not as if mp3's are some obscure protocol. Then there's the audio burner
where I can

add one song at a time to my 24.7 GB music collection to burn it all on 6
DVD"S. Yeah right!

In my humble opinion, the program is an insult, and adding injury to that
insult, if I was

not paying attention during the set-up procedure, the program would have
hijacked my home

page along with my default search engine; be it IE or Firefox. By definition,
programs

exhibiting that behavior are classified as Adware, plain and simple. It does
have a plus

side in that the Disc Eraser does indeed erase discs. As for the program being
able to work

with Flash Drives, considering that we are rapidly approaching the point where
disc's will

go the way of 8-Track's, Beta format, VHS cassettes, and the dinosaurs; no
comment.

If I may, I'd like to muse a little.

1) Lots of concerns and questions today. Like, will it burn, won't it burn,
will it compress

an ISO file, 30 day trial, etc. Try again! It's registered to
"giveawayoftheday" on my XP

Pro system that I just happened to be using when this hit at 3:00 A.M. EST this
morning.

2) Could all these questions relating to ISO files be, because Windows 7 Public
Betta

finally hit sometime last night? I got mine and a product key for it about 1
A.M. and thats

what I was doing at the time this give away posted. Heres the link and yes, it

3) Thats one big ISO file at 2.43 GB. And, it has to be burned on a DVD. To be
sure it will

4) Read comment #9 before you install this program & do pay attention during

Take a little care with this program because with version 10.5 when I tried to
repair

Windows with the OS cd it give me an error : «couldn´t find starportlite.sys»;
and it as to

do with a file of Star Burn v10.5!After wuen I wanted to boot windows it was
allways

begining with the configuration program tell all the time the same error.
Happyly I fixed

the boot with other program.!

So, we're back to endlessly useless comments.

All decent software upgrades properly during installation. This uninstalls your
previous

version during installation, although I don't like the fact that it doesn't
inform you of

successful uninstallation (it was instantaneous on my PC, so it wasn't clear
that it had

done so).

Undesirable installation options are nothing new, and aren't new for this
vendor. If you

don't pay attention to installation options, you shouldn't be allowed near
computers, and

deserve what you get.

ISO support is right in your face, with big buttons, you can't miss it.

Um, hello, 64-bit support is noted right at the top of this page.

Why in the world would anyone in their right mind complain about getting newer
versions than

are presently offered for sale? This is also not a new situation.

No, the different StarBurn versions aren't the same, as anyone can tell by
checking the

website. Traditionally, Rocket Division Software has offered their top products
on GOTD. The

listed price indicates that this is the top version, although that's not always
reliable.

The About doesn't say.

This version removed the SDK, although you can download a free version when it
becomes

available for StarBurn 11.

StarBurn Enterprise edition supports remote burners (reading from remote
optical drives is

supported by all versions). Since my other computer is dead, I can't test that,
but I did

install StarWind Lite (included). It downgraded an ancient Microsoft XML Core
Services 3

which some other software had installed to an even more ancient 2.6, but I
doubt that

matters. Vista uses XML Core Services 6 SP 1.

@#9 I don't think they're trying to "Sneak" anything in on us by asking us to
change our

home page. If they did it without our knowledge or without an option then that
would be

"Sneaking" it in. I mean would I be "Sneaking" into your home if I made it
clear that as an

option that I might be coming only if you told me to? I think some of those on
dial up or

with slower systems might enjoy having a home page that wouldn't suck the life
out of a

systems resources as AOL does as an example. If you're not pumped up on
caffeine and

clicking like someone in a race you'd take the time to read each install page
and deselect

any of these options (And that's all they are just options).

Why install from GAOTD when v10.5 is free ? and also can be reinstalled if
uninstalled .

GAOTD does not allow reinstall after installation time period is over , after
the time

period is over if you must uninstall then reinstall , software is no good and
that sucks ,

if your gonna give it away then do just that GIVE IT AWAY with no time limits .

previous version 10 offering saw my laptops DVD burner but this version 11
offering does not

Installed fine on Vista 64. I did not get the have-to-run-as-administrator
problem someone

described above, perhaps because I am the only user of my laptop and I am the
administrator

by default. Did not do a job yet, but the interface looks impressive, and when
I clicked

around on the buttons nothing froze or crashed. Seems to be a wide range of
tasks, including

file ripping. I thank GAOTD for this offering.

Installed with no problems on Windows 7 Beta 1 64 bit. I just got the Windows 7
Beta

yesterday and reformatted my drive. Now I have Starburn again! Thanks GAOTD,
this is an

excellent program. I love the rom emulator and have never made a coaster when
burning

anything with this program. It might take a little longer than some of the
other burning

engines out there, but I prefer to take my time and get it right. This is a
good program

folks, just take your time and get to know it before you throw it out.

I LOVE this software! I'm running XP SP2. I downloaded v10 when last offered. I
was almost

afraid to do the upgrade because if it isn't broke, don't fix it! But I took
the chance. The

install ran the uninstall to remove v10 then proceeded flawlessly to install
v11.

Registration went smoothly and I burned a test DVD with no problem. Get it
while you can!

Ok, windows requirements = 32 bit & 64 bit.
I bought my system in 2001, and I just don't remember what I have bit wise, as
I haven't had

to deal with that number since. Why not just give the operating system as
always? I have

Win200ProSP4, anyone know if that is 16 or 32 bit, I just don't remember,
although if I had

to guess, I would say 16 bit. Thanks.

Since there aren't any official game giveaways this weekend, there are some
games, demos,

and other cool stuff if you have an nVidia GeForce 8 series or higher GPU (some
need really

high-end cards). First, you should install the latest drivers, just released,
then check out

the Graphics Plus Power Packs (#2 is now available). They have PhysX enabled
games, patches,

and demos, CUDA enabled multimedia application trials, PhysX enabled physics
demos, PhysX

screensavers, etc.

People over-value what they own, and become emotionally attached to their
computers. There

are always comments from people with ridiculously obsolete hardware and
software. I haven't

kept up with the best deals, but just walking through a Walmart, I noticed a
dual-core

computer with 2 GB RAM, 320 GB hard drive, multiformat burner, semi-decent
video card, 19?

LCD, and Vista for $398.

There's a been a lot of Vista-bashing this week, typically from people who
don't know

anything about Vista. Of course it's bloated and CPU-intensive, that's true of
every new

Microsoft OS release, and largely intentional. Very few people upgrade their
OS, Microsoft

makes most of their money from OEM installations. Significantly greater
hardware

requirements means most people will need to purchase a new PC, which benefits
the OEMs and

Microsoft. The OEMs want new versions of Windows to have features that people
want, but

greater hardware requirements, so people will buy new computers. Microsoft
wants the same

thing, because that's where it gets much or most of its income. Vista has lots
of nice

features which should have been in Windows long ago (although the UI still
isn't up to basic

standards of the '70s). I haven't found compatibility to be an issue. I can
understand why

those with older games wouldn't like it, games have always been notorious for
terrible

coding and therefor not working on newer versions of Windows. The two things
about Vista

that irritate me the most are the ones that many people have mentioned, which
is much worse

stability than XP (not in terms of crashing, but in terms of OS rot to the
point of

requiring reinstallation), and its inability to remember and use the correct
folder views.

While you can specify basic folder views and formats, you can't specify
specialized formats.

For example, sometimes .zip files display zip-specific information, and
sometimes they

don't. Recently, I had two zip files in the same folder, and it would display
one correctly

and one incorrectly, repeatedly, but a few minutes later it was working again
(after a very

long period of not working at all).

I've always recommended that people check and upgrade their drivers directly
from the

specific hardware vendors (the component or card OEMs, not the computer OEM),
whenever

possible. While some may occasionally be available via Windows Update or the
computer OEM,

in most cases you can get newer, beta, related utilities, or cool stuff
directly from the

card/component vendors. Newer versions of my Realtek audio drivers are
available about

weekly. Intel has cool drivers for my network adapter that add very useful
property sheets

to the Windows Device Manager views (only), and aren't available via Windows
Update. I've

already mentioned some of the nVidia stuff, they have more, including system
and GPU

information and overclocking utilities. It wouldn't let me change the core
clock on my

mid-range card, but I was able to slightly overclock the memory (a nuisance to
set, since it

will kill the entire PC), and seriously overclock the pixel shaders (non-fatal
display

artifacts if set too high).

Thanks JJ2 for posting the link to Sundays free games for me. There was no way
I was going

This is the best Burner I'm used. I had some crap blank DVDs that I was having
trouble

burning with other software. StarBurn has burned every one perfect. I've been
using various

burners for years and this one is the best.

It has a long list of features but the important thing is that it does an
impressive job of

burning.

Keep in mind that it is a BURNER not DVD authoring software, an MP3 tool, a
player or any

other tool that some newbies here think it should be.

Take a look at the Action bar: Burn Data, Burn Audio, Burn Video, Burn Image
(ISO), Erase

Disc, Decrypt DVD, Decrypt Blue Ray, Grab Image, Create Image, Build Image,
Build UDF Image,

Grab Audio, Compress Audio, Star Port. That is an impressive list for a Burner.

The Good

* Has almost every trick in the book that deals with burning CDs (including DVD
ripping, VCD

burning, ISO creation, etc.).
* Has the ability to detect your CD drive and report to you its capabilities.
* Network burning capabilities.
* They don't charge $495 for it anymore. :P
* Has built in ability to mount ISOs.
* Fairly light on resources (uses ~8 MB RAM idle)

The Bad
* Minimizes to your system tray when you minimize.
* No 'back up your files' feature per se.
* File browser seems a bit unnecessary; program would look a lot better and
more compact

without it.
* Cannot burn 'video' Blue Ray/HD-DVDs (?)
* Program only works with ISO image files and not other formats.

Registration:
Went fine. Just be weary of the program trying to make it's developer search
page your

default search/homepage while installing.

Free Alternatives:

Verdict: There are tons of disc burning software out there. However, with the
abundance of

features and relative ease to use, StarBurn really does stand out. I would
definelty call

this a keeper if you have a need for a disc burning software. As for free
alternatives, the

one that stands out is Ashampoo Burning Studio. Ashampoo is just as abundant in
features as

StarBurn and is just as easy to use - plus it is always free. Most of what you
can in

StarBurn you can do in Ashampoo and vice versa. The key differences between
StarBurn and

Ashampoo as I see them are the following: Ashampoo supports CUE/BIN and ASHDISC
along with

ISO image format. Ashampoo has a 'back up' feature. StarBurn has network
burning

capabilities and DVD rip abilities (removing DRM). StarBurn uses up less
computer resources

- 8 MB vs 35 MB while idling. Both Ashampoo and StarBurn are great programs and
both are

recommended by me - you just have to make up your mind which one you want. I
personally

prefer StarBurn solely on the basis that I find the interface to be more
'professional' and

StarBurn uses less computer resources.

Can't burn my youtube (.FLV) videos to DVD because it says they are not in
right format :(.
Tried Windows Mediamaker to do that, it at least burnt them to DVD in MPEG
format although

there was a lot of skipping.

I know #7's questions' already been answered, but I'd like to offer my favorite
freeware ISO

burner: BurnCDCC . It's only 68k, doesn't need to be installed, and uses a
single executable

file.

#16 & 42:
Starburn registers itself only to the user account that installed it, which
means it's not

registered in any of the other user accounts on a PC. This is a problem that
several GOTDs

in the past have had. Ideally, the program should store its registry
information in HKLM

instead of HKCU. #23's solution should work, although you'll have to set the
compatibility

mode for all users, and you'll have to enter your admin password every time you
want to run

the program.

#71:
StarPort Lite I imagine is the same as StarPort Personal on the publisher's
site, which

emulates an ISO file as a new DVD-ROM drive on your PC. This is useful for when
you want to

run an ISO without burning it, or want to copy a disc you use often to your
harddrive and

run it from there.

#75:
The publisher's site says that you have to have Windows XP SP2 at minimum in
order to run

this program. So no, it won't work on Win98.

I always use IMGburn (to make ISO to burn to DVD), and also use DVDShrink 3.2.
Both are

absolutely free. Couple this with ANYdvd, and you can burn almost anything with
these

programs. I haven't tried this program yet, but will give it a shot.

I made a comment earlier that it installed on Windows 7 beta with no problems,
well it

installed fine, but as soon as I went to run it, I get an error that the driver
was not

installed and to restart. Well I had already restarted, but I did it again and
got the same

message. I have tried everything, installing and running in Vista compatibility
mode, XP

compatibility mode and of course I am running as administrator. I expect things
to not work

while testing beta software, especially an OS and have sent a message to MS
about the

problem. I am posting this so that all those that got in on the Windows 7 Beta,
don't try to

download and install this. Thanks anyway, GAOTD this is one of my favorites.

It seems to me that the only difference between the 2 versions is that only the

one has network burning capabilities but, apart from that, both versions are

All I want to know is how to make a viewable copy of a DVD movie. Is this
program all I need

or do I need another in conjunction? I dl this last time it was available (In
Oct I believe.

I'm just setting up a new machine, so the arrival of this updated version was
absolutely

perfect timing. Excellent!

One thing concerns me though. Once installed, a requester pops up asking for
Starburn to be

allowed through the Firewall in order to check for updates. However, wouldn't
an update

result in the software's 'registered' status being compromised? Just a thought.

Oh, and Developer please note there's a typo in the above mentioned requester.
Otherwise,

I'll give this brilliant and indispensable application 11/10 plus my undying

Excellent, reliable, high quality software. I very rarely need an application
like this,

otherwise I would have bought StarBurn v10. One of the best GOTDs I've
acquired. Highly

recommended.

One comment however - the need during installation to untick the options to
change your home

page and search provider to theirs, slightly spoils their image in my eyes. My
home page!

Give me a break. And as for search provider, if they seriously think they're in
competition

with Google, then hiding the announcement in the StarBurn installation routine
isn't the way

Not entirely sure what you mean?. An ISO is an image of everything on the disc,
just the way

the data will be burned on the disk - not the way it's stored on hard drives.
To see what

the disk would look like, mount the ISO on a virtual drive. To extract the
data, use

IsoBuster. To create an ISO from disc, most CD/DVD burning software.

"How about cutting mp3's on DVDs?"

There is no such thing. Mp3 files are converted from other formats, or by
recording. Loads

of software available, including WMPlayer. TO put them on a CD/DVD, burn a data
disc - treat

them like any other file, though folder/file naming may have some restrictions
on some

players. An audio CD is a different format, using wav files at 16/44.1. An
audio DVD is a

specialized format requiring special software & players, AFAIK at extra cost.

"As for the program being able to work with Flash Drives"

Again, not entirely sure what you mean?. Flash drives are treated just like
hard drives as

far as Windows & most current PCs are concerned. Nothing special to reading or
writing to

flash storage, other than being able to connect to it - i.e. if you want to use
a SD card,

you need a SD card reader/writer.

Running xp pro sp2 and had previous starburn gaotd version.

Like some other comments mentioned above, automatically detected previous
install and asked

to unistall prior to proceeding and than secondary message to insure that setup
and wizard

was not opened and to close prior to install.

However, I had obviously had the wizard opened and ready to launch after
clicking next, left

everything as was and I clicked the next on the sencondary message. No probs
and I unchecked

the two options that would redirect ones default setting.

Received instant registration as gaotd user upon opening software which flashed
briefly

before launching the software.

Haven't tried the functionality yet but here's a note: Blu-Ray DVD Decryptor
(Experimental)

I never did figure out why StarBurn v10 would not run on my PC (it always said
a basic

burner engine was not installed though it was) but, I like Rocket Division
software in

general so I had to uninstall v10 to try v11. V10 was still there for me to try
again

whenever I got to burning!! I have others as well which I have been using; now
I will retry

StarBurn. Thanks to everyone involved. For those wondering, I run Vista HB with
a 3GHZ P4

and 2G RAM on this 1 0f 6 PCs on our home network - highly tweaked of course.

I remember the last time I've had problems installing it on Vista Home Premium .
I'll stick with Ashampoo Burning Studio 2009 . It has everything I need ( it
even has a

Label Designer ! ). And it ripps DVDs - Ashraf ! . And it is really light on my
Vista Home

premium.

Wow, I really don't think I have ever seen so many confused posts here before.

This is a burning program, not an archiver.

If you don't know the difference between data, audio, and video cds/dvds, then
you need to

take a few minutes to learn, because you obviously aren't ready to burn.

If the software offers installation options, and you ignore those and just
click "ok" on

every screen, and the software makes changes to your system that you don't
like, whose fault

is that?

I use Imgburn and various other programs, so I won't be installing this
particular software

on XP, and even though some of the features are nice to have in an all-in-one,
the last

giveaway of this program was an overpriced network edition with the same
installation

options of a toolbar and search engine that are unnecessary and intrusive in
shareware and

for that reason alone I didn't want to install it. Finally, the useful comments
here

pertaining to Vista and Windows 7 have decided me against installing on those
OS's, although

on first blush it appears 7 users won't even require installation of this type
of software.

#84, MetSci, DVR-MS files are just MPEG-2 containers with additional
information, and

encrypted if DRM'd. There are lots of freeware and commercial programs which
can do the

conversion. Some are complex and use pilfered commercial codecs. There was a
nice integrated

one I used to use on MCE 2005. When I started using Vista MC, I didn't want to
risk messing

up my installation with software designed for MCE 2005, so I'm using
DVRMStoMPEG

<http://dvrmstompeg.googlepages.com/dvr-mstompegconverter>, which doesn't
install, and is

just a VB GUI for FFmpeg. Vista MC is bad about screwing up the beginning of
analog and

digital recordings. DVRMStoMPEG will do the extraction when many converters
will fail to

find the MPEG-2 data if there are leading errors. You can Google for other
alternatives, or

check the various MC forums. Note that you can only extract content from
non-DRM'd DVR-MS

files. Since many of my recordings are now digital, I no longer bother with
MPEG-2 and DVDs.

Many HDTV recordings won't even fit onto a dual-layer DVD, and Blu-Ray media is
too

expensive. I just dump the DVR-MS files to external hard drives. If I need to
convert HDTV

to DVD, I have VideoReDo TVSuite <http://www.videoredo.com/en/index.htm> (it
can also do the

MPEG-2 extraction, but chokes on leading errors). Also, note that if you intend
to burn

DVDs, recorded video can have all sorts of errors and generally doesn't meet
DVD encoding

standards. While most DVD players will accept some slop, they're generally not
as forgiving

as PC codecs. That's why I use VideoReDo. There are freeware alternatives which
I haven't

used, I don't know if they're as good.

As far as software goes, there are 2 types of DVDs - decide what you want to
create, & that

pretty much decides your software. If you want menus, then spend the cash for
something like

one of the Sony programs, or learn how to use one of the open source DVD Author
GUIs - DVD

author is quite a bit harder to use than most commercial products, requiring
some knowledge

of DVDs on top of knowing how to use the software. If you're willing to forgo
the menus,

there's a fair selection of free video converters & tools at videohelp.com. If
you want to

put more than 2 hours of video on a DVD (pretty much the absolute max for
watchable

quality), you'll need to burn dual layer blanks, & the standard for burning DL
discs is

ImgBurn. As far as *any* burning program authoring DVDs, the closest you're
going to get to

something *workable* there is Roxio's suite, which includes a Pinnacle program.
It's

actually not a function for any burner program, though most authoring programs
also burn

discs so it can get confusing.

Ummmm. a LOT actually. ;-) Shrink (which is cool - don't get me wrong) has 1
purpose:

reducing the size of movie DVDs to hopefully fit on 1, single layer DVD blank.
Decrypter

removes copy protection. ImgBurn is great, but it's far from the friendliest
program to use,

& doesn't have a large set of features - it was never intended to compete with
Roxio, Nero,

or Rocket Division.

#14 There is another difference between the three versions other than the
support plans.

Only the Enterprise edition can record to remote CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD burner
over TCP/IP.

Another note.The website shows version 10.5 not version 11.

Just a thought for the one who is having issues with Windows 7 Betta & drivers.
I'll be

installing Windows 7 Betta on my spare hard drive tomorrow, on my Vista
desktop. It's a Dell

so I have what they call a resource CD. It has all my drivers for XP & Vista.
I've been

reading about 7 since I first heard of the public release. The best I can
determine is that

its built on Vistas code. I'm going to install the system & try all my Vistas
drivers. Then

double check in the device manager. I'm thinking you might not have the ROM
drivers

installed correctly.
I downloaded my Windows 7 ISO file & burned it on a DVD with todays give away &
the PC will

boot to it for an install. I did it using Vista Ultimate with no problems.
I apologize to GOTD for this post not entirely relating to todays offer. I'll
update the

driver thing later this week, maybe Tuesday when I know for sure if I can burn
with Windows

7. However, I'm going to try a few other burning programs to, Nero, Ahaampoo v8
& Roxio

Premier if necessary.

I'm with #92.

I just want to be able to transfer a DVD movie to my hard drive and then be
able to burn a

viewable copy from there, as I only have one DVD burner and one CD burner on my
computer.

I've checked the HELP info provided and nowhere do I find the info that I'm
looking for. I

have XP sp3.
Yes, I am a novice senior at this, but at least at my age, I'm still trying to
learn new

things. Some of you, in your postings need to realize that not all of us have
reached your

stage in understanding this new technology. Thank you GAOTD for all that you
provide. Many

of your games stimulate the mind and are great for hand and eye coordination.
It is

appreciated.

When burning a CD it does handle CD-Text, sort of. It'll copy the song title
but fails to

copy the Disk title, instead replacing the disk title with "CD-Text" and then
instead of

copying the disk artist's name it replaces it with "StarburnAudioCD".

I've had one peculiar problem with the previous version of Starburn - it seems
that when I

uninstalled it (for lack of need), all of my other programs that I got from
GAOTD that

either ripped, converted or copied DVD movies stopped working. Occasionally
when one of

these programs failed (like Plato DVD copy, for example) I would get an error
message that a

Starburn file was missing. It even crashed my DVD-Xcopy that I didn't get from
GAOTD so now

I am unable to use any of my DVD movie ripping, copying or converting programs
at all. This

makes me leary of installing version 11 of StarBurn at all.

I am hoping that by installing this current version somehow my other programs
will begin to

work again. I will be doing this tonight and post an update if possible.

#107 and #92
There are two ways to do this. If the DVD is content protected, you can try to
use the "DVD

Decrypt" tool. Or if the DVD is not content protected, you can use the "Grab
Image" tool.

Both tools will rip the contents off your DVD and place the in an ISO file on
your computer.

An ISO file is, more or less, a disc image. Now in order for you to be able to
view your

movies, you will have to mount this ISO file. There is a feature called "Create
DVD" under

"StarPort" in the left hand menu that enables you to mount ISO files. Run it
and browse to

where you saved the ISO file that you ripped from the DVD. Mount it and the ISO
file should

show up in My Computer as if you put in a disc. From here its the same as if
you had the

file on a disc and inserted it into your disc drive.

I would like to make a quick change to the comment above.

I said that you could use "DVD Decrypt" or "Grab Image" to rip DVDs. I made a
mistake. In

reality you only need to use DVD Decrypt to rip a video DVD regardless of if it
is content

protected or not - no need to bother with "Grab Image".

The process I described above still applies however.

Installed and ran OK. I have been using Ashampoo burning studio 7 for quite
some time, and

just upgraded to version 8. It is much better than StarBurn, but that is to be
expected.
