[JAWSLite] Re: Trend Micro

Thanks, I have Microsoft Windows and Advanced Windows care, plus Adware on
this machine. I turned on the Windows firewall, although my router has one,
and installed AVG virus scan this evening, so far, after 2 hours, everything
is working well, no computer lockups, no viruses, no spyware based on the
scans I ran tonight.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I will put AVG on the laptop and have already turned on the XP
firewall, since it won't be on the net often, that should do it for now. I
will probably set up a schedule for it to update the virus scan once a week
on a day it isn't at work where I don't have wireless connection.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Hello Rose,

I think that the suggestion for you to try AVG free antivirus is a good one.

I am not familiar with the Trend Micro security suite, but the company has
been around for years and have usually put out good products. Remember that
in a security suite you probably get a program for spyware protection
besides the antivirus program and possibly a firewall. If you are using a
broadband connection you will want a firewall such as the free Zone Alarm.
Of course your router might have an adequate hardware firewall and Vista's
firewall is definitely an improvement from the one in XP. For spyware
protection you might consider Spybot Search and Destroy. Version 1.5 of the
program is quite accessible. Spybot has a T-timer process that runs in the
background that you might want to disable if you are bothered by being told
about every little change that occurs with your system, but it can be
disabled simply by being unchecked in the configuration utility as a start
up process. These programs usually require more manual operation than
complete suites that you might buy, but they are free.
