You can also hold down ctrl+shift, and press the end key, and it will select
all the text in one fowl swoop.

I use control and shift for selecting blocks of text. If you start with
your cursor at the beginning, then hold shift and arrow right, you will
select a block, one character at at time. if you hold down control and
shift and arrow right, you will select a word at a time and if you use
down
arrow, you will select a line at a time. Of course it works in reverse
with
left and up arrows.
