So, this is specific to MS Word? Will definitely help since I can just copy
the whole thing into Word, or open a text file and then do it.
Thanks

This is for Word and perhaps you can make it fit your needs:
This assumes you know the ending point of where you want to select text.
What I might do is go to the last place you
want to select text and type in ***.
Go to where you want to begin selecting text.
Press f8 for extended select mode.
Press control F for the find command and type in the ending point. As
with this example ***.
Press escape to leave the find dialog and the text will be selected from
the
beginning to the ending point, now do with it what you will.
Press escape to leave extended select mode.

That I do know.
The problem is that, if, for example, I was in a large text file
containing
something around 30 short stories, and I wanted to select one specific
one,
somewhere in the middle, I could easily get to the start of it by doing
a
search for the story number, or the chapter no. or something, but then,
I'd
either have to try hitting page down, while holding in the shift key,
and
hope that I didn't get too far without realising where I was, or I'd
have to
go down one line at a time for ages until I got to where I actually
wanted
to be.
Anyway, it's good that all you guys are passing on suggestions.
Cheers
Jacob

You can also hold down ctrl+shift, and press the end key, and it will
select all the text in one fowl swoop.

I use control and shift for selecting blocks of text. If you start
with
your cursor at the beginning, then hold shift and arrow right, you
will
select a block, one character at at time. if you hold down control
and
shift and arrow right, you will select a word at a time and if you
use
down
arrow, you will select a line at a time. Of course it works in
reverse
with
left and up arrows.
Hope that helps.
