[JAWSLite] Re: Silent Desktop

Yes, but please remember that FS made a deliberate correction so that
navigation would no longer work re: lists now only have one letter
navigation as opposed to several in succession.

List views still work the same for me on many computers, and with JAWS 7
and 8. I can press 1, 2, 3, or more letters to jump to a file and still
get there as always.

the reason is changes they make in the differing versions, it's like in
6X we used to be able to get into a list view, such as the links list in
internet explorer, and hit two letters on the keyboard in rapid
succession, and it would go to the first item with those two letters, in
7 and 8 that does not work anymore, blaze it!

they fix some things, and break others on us.

btw I think I forgot the zip file I was going to add, which actually is
good since I sent the message back to the list instead of changing
things so it went straight to you, so, I'll send the file to you now in
a separate E mail.

Hi
My only question is, Why would the settings work with Jaws 7.0 but
not work with the latest version of Jaws?
BTW what is a Catalyst when it comes to the Radion card?

hmmm, here's the rundown for what would be useful right now, or at least
to me, others may ask for more info, smile

go to start menu, settings, control panel, then go to display, and open
it.
then control tab to the settings tab, the second item that you can tab
to in this dialog is screen resolution, what is the pixels count given
when you land on this readout/slider, it should say 100% and something
like "1280 by 800 pixels",
then tab again, it will say color quality, it may say "more" and give a
color rating, mine says "highest, 32 bit"

sometimes jaws will not work right, or I should say in older versions
jaws wouldn't always work right at this high a setting,
but it does on mine, though a recommended setting is the 24 bit one.
also, I am including a zip file with two different sets of settings for
making jaws work properly with windows XP, most if not all of these,
need to be done to assure jaws can see things properly, (the one
exception I know of is the view all folders in the general settings of
folder options, does not "have" to be set to "view all folders in the
same window" I use the "view each folder in a separate window" setting
and except for needing to go through and clean up, (I. E. close unneeded
windows) that setting works as good as the single window one).

if all this doesn't work, you may need to find out what you have for a
graphics card, and take the info to freedom Scientifics' support people.

Hi
  What setting should I pass on?  I have the desktop set to XP;
however, that shouldn't be a problem because Jaws 7.0 works with it that
way.  Sometimes Jaws doesn't want to read the list of messages in OE;
however this doesn't happen all of the time. These are for the latest
version of Jaws.

Hi
When i just tried the insert+ctl+escape, the start menue came up just
as if I had only pressed ctl+escape. When I do the Windows Key+D, a
list of the desktop icons appears; however, Jaws still doesn't say
anything until I select something. If I type the initial for an
application on the desktop, and press enter it goes to where it should
but, of course Jaws remains quiet.

hmmm, I'm using the latest jaws 8 on XP home, and the only time I get
this type of trouble is:
1. when I have something in the way, such as a priority screened
application.
or
2. when jaws has started to "go south for the winter"

have you tried re-initializing the scripts/jaws when on the desktop
(insert, control and escape simultaneously)?

if, when on your desktop, you type a letter for a known desktop shortcut
and hit enter do you get that application, do you get something else, or
nothing?

if you hit windows key D instead of windows key M does that bring up a
list of desktop shortcuts?

and have you checked your display settings? to make sure something
hasn't rearranged them in an way that is hindering jaws?

I'm sure we can find it, we just need to run down through all the
possibilities, smile

I could wish that your prior posts were included in this, ok, so you get
no viewable icons on your desktop as far as jaws is concerned?
but you can "see" internet pages and your e mail client,

can you see the start menu when you hit the windows key? or the system
tray when you hit insert and F11?

hmmmm, could you refresh me on what version of jaws and your operating
system please, I did read your first message, but have forgotten the
details and not having them in the continued posts leaves me unable to
recheck them.
