[JAWSLite] Re: Screen find functionality

I've tried out that Jaws key + Ctrl + F thing, and it's still only relevant to searching a 'text area' as such, where I'm specifically trying to find the labels of other regions of the screen like buttons, menu items etc., and it definitely doesn't get it right.

Like I said in the other email, maybe I must look into that frames list feature where I might then be able to get focus onto the correct part of the screen, and then retry that Jaws + Ctrl + F thing.

With regard to your search problem in a web browser, is it maybe possible that the screen contents have been updated by JavaScript or something, in which case the virtual buffer of Jaws wouldn't necessarily have been updated? Maybe first try the Jaws key + Esc key combo in order to hopefully get it to then find the stuff.

FWIW, on certain sites, even though I could sort of find the relevant text in the actual source of a webpage that I'd actually saved to my hard disk in order to check it out, I couldn't find it in the front-end thereof. FS's recommendation was to upgrade to IE7, and it did help on some webpages - even though I still prefer the interface/environment of IE6 on my actual 'work' machine.

Stay well

The jaws key plus control plus F is the find function on the screen. On the sites where what you are searching for is not within the boundaries (I think that's the word) of jaws yoou will get a negative return. I haven't figured out how to overcome this and if anyone has the information please feel free. For example, I went on the web, using links from Google, to read the biography of an individual. The name of the individual was at the top of the page as in "Biography of Abe Lincoln." However, I couldn't get any other information off the page about the person. I used the jaws find and typed the word "born" into the field and still got nothing. I tried typing the name of the place where I knew this individual was born and still nothing. How can I refocus my browser on the text for the site that I want? Judith ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jacob Kruger" <jacobk@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Subject: [JAWSLite] Screen find functionality

Something I've been thinking that I would have expected to have in Jaws for a while would be the functionality for searching for something represented somewhere on the screen by a specific string of text, that, for example, would be in the prompt that Jaws would say when, for example, that object got focus.

In other words, something similar to searching for a specific piece of text in a word document, or text file, but since Jaws actually goes and builds itsself a virtual buffer of the screen contents, I would have expected to be able to 'search' for a specific object/control/ bit of screen content or something.

Now, when I turn on keyboard help using Jaws key + number 1, then it says that Jaws key + Ctrl + F turns on the Jaws find dialogue, but trying out that thing, it doesn't really seem to find anything unless I'm actually in a text field, so obviously, it's just another keystroke to activate something that you can generally access using various keystrokes in different programs (e.g. Ctrl + Shift + F in OE).

Anyway, was just wondering if I'm missing something, or whether there's some or other workaround for this type of functionality, since, alternatively, you might sometimes need to use something like WinDig to 'find' a specific control.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks in advance
