[JAWSLite] Re: Quick Mute for Jaws?

Hello, Robert, JAWS itself does not have a built-in hotkey to mute
the synthesizer. However, within the JAWS Keyboard Manager, there is
a function to do that to which you can assign a keystroke. Here is
what you need to do. Press Insert+F2 to bring up the list of
managers. Press K to select Keyboard Manager and press Enter. You
are going to want to modify the JAWS Default File, so in the list
which comes up of assigned keystrokes for different applications,
select Default in the list. Then, tab to the list of functions, and
type the first two letters of the word mute. You may see a first
instance of the mute function which is for the PowerBraille 40. If
so, arrow down one more until it just says Mute Synthisizer. Next,
hit Control+a to add a new keystroke for this function. JAWS should
ask you what keystroke you wish to assign. Actually do the keystroke
you want to assign. I chose to give this function to the key
combination Insert+grave accent. The grave accent is just to the
left of the number 1 on the numbers row. You may need to hit the OK
button, but in any event, JAWS should ask you if you really want to
modify default.jkm. Say yes. So now, when you hit Insert+grave
accent (or whatever keystroke you decide to assign), the speech will
be muted, and when you do that keystroke again, the speech will come
back on. Hope this helps. At 10:03 AM 11/15/2008 -0500, you wrote:
