Hi

Please disregard my last message. I mistakenly made the numpad like a
telephone. I really wanted numpad 1 where I said numpad 7 before. Here's
the correct version.

By default, when OpenBook is started, JAWS goes into sleep mode. This means
that all the keys are for OpenBook, not JAWS. With the default OpenBook 7
keyboard, the numpad 0, which is usually the JAWS key, is now the scan key.
So if you press the JAWSKEY, the scanner goes. Also with the default
keyboard, the numpad 1 will turn on the OpenBook key describer and let you
press the keys and hear what they do. Press numpad 1 again to turn off the
key describer. Also you can change the OpenBook keyboard layout to be
similar to the JAWS desktop layout. Then the numpad 0 is again like the
JAWSKEY, and the space bar is the scan key. To change the OpenBook keyboard
layout, press ALT+g for the settings menu. Up arrow to get to keyboard
settings and press enter. The first item in the keyboard settings is
keyboard layout. Press the down arrow to select JAWS and press enter. You
are now using the OpenBook JAWS keyboard layout. If you want this setting
to stay in effect the next time you start OpenBook, press ALT+g again for
the settings menu, and press enter on Save the settings. Save the settings
as Default. Also in the OpenBook JAWS keyboard layout, the numpad 0
(JAWSKEY) + numpad 1 is used to turn on and off the key describer.

Subject: [JAWSLite] OpenBook

Hello all --
I just purchased the latest version of OpenBook and installed it. I did not
install connect out loud or realspeak as I have jaws8.

But I ran the program and it immediaitely started scanning and I couldn't
stop it. Furthermore, it doesn't behave like jaws in that I can't access
menus or help of any kind.
I am stumped as to how to work this thing. There is a readme that hasn't
been updated since 2004 and gives no directions on how to use it.
There is a "Getting Started" audio CD that I started listening to, but it is
full of stuff like registering the product and sounds as old as the
readme -- it even refers to using the floppy authorization cd.
I suppose I should have listened to the whole thing bu after 10 minutes with
only limited information, I turned it off.

That appears to be the only documentation there is for this thing.
Am I missing something?
Perhaps there was a document that got put away somewhere but I don't
remember one.

Can anyone point me to a good help file for OpenBook?
Well, at least I know my scanner is working...*smile*
TIA
