I know about Jamal's windig application, since I have links to all his
programs on my grabbag site, I volunteered to be his application face plate
until he can make some reworking of his home page, but found it as you put
it a bit technical for me, but thanks for all the info, it may be of good
use in future endeavors.
have a good one,

Subject: [JAWSLite] Re: List of hotkeys in a dialogue box using Jaws
I think I will send a 'report' on to MS, but, FWIW, I have for now sort of
worked around the problem after some of the guys on the program-l mailing
list reminded me of the WinDig software I'd actually downloaded a while
ago, but hadn't tried yet.
Basically, if you run it after a window/dialogue is already open, and then
select the specific window/dialogue, it will actually attempt to document
all of the control structure of the relevant thing, including listing all
of the hotkeys etc. Unfortunately, it still doesn't give you the hotkey
of a control that hasn't as such had any accessibility information linked
to it (including some of the controls I was specifically looking at
getting to), but during that discussion, one of the other guys also told
me about a sort of workaround for getting to the Add/Remove Windows
components button (down arrow from the normal change/remove button), so I
could again 'test' the Shift + numpad 5 key combo, and it again said 'no
hotkey'.
Anyway, in terms of the more specific problem I had trying to restore that
MSSQL Db, the information it reported to me did in fact help me to find
what I wanted since it was at least mentioning some of the controls there
that I had sort of forgotten about, which got me back on track.
The URL to download that piece of software from Jamal Masry's site is:
http://www.EmpowermentZone.com/wdsetup.exe
Little bit technical for some people, and the one thing to remember is
that in the reporting text file that it will create, that hotkeys are
rendered as & (ampersand) characters before the relevant letter since
that's sort of how you implement them while programming in certain
scenarios, but it might be interesting to check out anyway.
Stay well

that sounds like the one I was thinking of, though I thought it, or
another one gave the hot keys, sigh, may be misremembering though! gads
what a mess, frack!
alright, maybe you can make a report to the jaws 9 beta test E mail and
they may... be able to do something with it, I donno, but maybe.
I would as well post the problem to the Microsoft accessibility group at:
enable@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
if enough folks report it it should get a look into if nothing else.
take care and good luck,

Looking through the docs for Jaws, I think the one you are referring to
is Jaws key + B, which while it does read the whole dialogue box,
doesn't mention those specific buttons/controls I'm talking about every
time.
One more thing is that when I now retested this in the Add/remove
programs dialogue box, and used the Alt + W hotkey to start that part of
the process, while it did in fact put focus on the Add/remove windows
components button, when I then used the Shift + numpad 5 key combo to
readed me the hotkey, it in fact said something along the lines of 'no
hotkey assigned', which is obviously rubbish since the non-existent
hotkey just put focus on that button.
Oh well...
Will have to get some sighted people to help and will start documenting
the 'missing' controls or something. LOL!
Stay well

in add/remove I usually used the jaws cursor to "click the tab" or
button whatever it is now, that's one area that MS really did us a
disservice!
I think there is a jaws keystroke that reads out the items in a dialog
and, I think... gives you the hot keys for them, I don't have my notes
for it handy, but I got it out of the overall keystroke listings for
jaws in the help menu. just like I found some specialty "mouse over"
commands there.

Subject: [JAWSLite] List of hotkeys in a dialogue box using Jaws
Hi there.
A question on my part.
Basically when using certain programs, and a dialogue box pops up for
whatever, where I know there certain controls that for some reason
don't seem to be in the 'tab list', but which I am relatively certain
have Alt + hotkeys assigned to them, I would like to be able to
somehow obtain a list of the available hotkey combinations -
preferably with the relevant description/label for that control.
A couple of examples are in the 'add/remove programs' dialogue which
you get to from the control panel in windows xp. It has a button to
allow you to add/remove windows components etc. which is accessed
using Alt + W, but which you can't tab to.
The other one that now brought this up in my head is that in MS SQL
server 2003, when I want to restore a backup of a database that I got
from someone else, once I select the from filegroups or files option,
I know there is a button which would allow me to select the relevant
backup file(s), but which I can't right now remember the shortcut key
for.
Anyway, do any of you guys know of some way to work around/access this
sort of thing?
FWIW, am using Jaws 8/9 on a Windows XP Pro machine. Also, for some
of these problems, things like NVDA work better since you can
'navigate' from parent-child-sibling object in these situations.
Thanks in advance
Jacob Kruger
