[JAWSLite] Re: Jaws Application or Service

In addition to the log on screen, I've had other situations where running
JAWS as a service has been beneficial. For example, I can't virtualize the
current window except when running JFW as a service. I run JFW as a service
exclusively on all of my systems. Note that this is just my experience, and
others have had the opposite experience. Further note, that I'm not aware of
Freedom Scientific recommending running JFW as a service instead of an
application. My only advice, is to experiment with each and decide which is
best for yourself and your situation.

hi,

for you as a user, there is not much difference whether you have jaws
running asan application or as a service. there are certainsituations in
which one or the other is to be preferred, though.

When you check the "run jaws first" option, you are actually running jaws as
a service. This means that jaws will start before windows has fully loaded
and you will have speech at the log-on prompt and if you need to see mesages
early in the boot process. this is useful in a multi-user enviroment when
each user needs to enter their user name and password to log into widnows.
this is also useful when you are working with a lot of hardware installs and
might need to trouble shoot for error messages that come up as windows
loads.

On the other hand, especially with some versions of jaws, jaws did not read
some things when run as a service.

when you start jaws from a desktop shortcut, unless you create one for the
jaws service, jaws is run as an aplication.
