What i wrote to the list is what I tell my instructors and basically they're
ok with this. Get your disability services advisor involved with this as
well.

As a non-PowerPoint user and someone long since graduated from college,
I've been following Don Mauck's and now your suggestions to Vanessa with
interest. I don't think we can tell professors not to use graphics, but we
can say that if they do so, they should provide text equivalents. I hope
Don and others familiar with PowerPoint can come up with good guidelines
for students confronting this and other applications that present
accessibility difficulties. It's wonderful that subscribers to this list
provide such valuable help to students, as well as the rest of us.

You need to tel the instructors that in order for you to view a power
point using jaws, the powerpoint itself needs to be in HTML format and
that no graphics shall be present. HTH.

To make a request to a professor so that the material for a class is
readable by JAWS, do I state that the information must be text based not
graphic based? Or is this referred to in some other words?

Vanessa, Was this originally created in Word? Was it originally an actual
power point? Right now, I'd say that this was not created in Power point,
however, if it was I'd like to see the actual power point rather than
having it put into a word document. You also sent it to me in a format
that Jaws does not support so I had to change the view to a normal view.
So just to make sure you understand what I'm asking, what was the original
format you were given?

Nothing happens exept, JAWS reads tab enter. Is an embedded field
something that sounds like it came from PowerPoint?

I tried enter and f6 to access the content of the slide. I have been able
to copy it to WORD, but not to this message so you could see it. In WORD,
it is called an embedded field.
Does this tell you anything more about the slide? I thought it was created
with PowerPoint, but I am guessing. I will ask for assistance from the
instructor, but I wanted to make sure I
was using JAWS correctly.
Any suggestions on how this text can be read, or that it can not be
read by JAWS? Vanessa

Here's what I have found. To read the slide you need to press the enter
key to get into the text. For example: if you see "slide one," you can
then tab, press enter, and you should see the information in the slide.
Also you can press F6 to cycle through the slide name, thumb nail and
notes. So you may have some one who has entered
something in the notes content that you might need to read as well.
When in PowerPoint, read the helps that Jaws provides, it will also be a
big help in this. Hth.

I am taking a class on the internet. PowerPoint is used for some of the
class. Can anyone advise me if JAWS will work on PowerPoint slide shows. I
had some training in PowerPoint many years ago, so I know
JAWS will work, but I do not know enough to be aware of whether the
creator of the slide-show has to create it in a specific way or if I need
to change my JAWS settings to read the material. JAWS is reading all of
the links around the slides, but not recognizing the slide text.
