Sorry to hear about you guys having all these hassles.
FWIW, the more definite way of getting that run dialogue (so that support guys can't argue with you), is to use the key combo of Windows key + R.

I recommend you call tech support directly as I'm still having problems with the whole jaws/xp/narrator on my old laptop. In fact, when I go to the run dialog and type narrator, jaws comes up instead of narrator, but I can't get the tech to believe me that I was actually on the run dialog. It has to be because I bring up the start menu (hear the start menu popup sound) then type r (hear the menu command sound) then type "narrator" followed by enter. Jaws comes up, partially. Now I tried rebooting but my machine appears to be fried -- jaws comes up but no windows login screen, no way to get a login prompt (even with control+alt+delete), and no way to shut down jaws. I'm waiting for sighted assistance to call them back and they say it is going to take at least an hour and a half on the phone with them with sighted assistance to get this untangled. I am sure it must be malware. It started after installing windows live messenger and trying to fix thedisplay chain. 
Groan, grumble, banging desk with my head...
Fortunately I have another laptop with jaws 9 and no IM clients.
I hope your problem isn't as involved as mine.

I am running Windows XP, and have been using JAWS 8.0 fine and normal as usual, until now. I got up this morning, jfw 8, or 9 wouldn't launch. Narrator wouldn't iether (odd?)... I tried the portable version of 7.0, nothing. I am about to try a Window Eyes demo. The only screen reader that works, is NVDA (Nonvisual Desktop Access)! I have seen some very strange behavior from MS narrator on the other hand. I will launch narrator with the keystroke windows+u. I look at the utilitie manager, and see that narrator is running, but it really isn't! That narrator, running message changes in about 5 seconds after the launching of utilitity manager though. It says it isn't launching.
I have called freedom Scientific, and the problem has already reached escolation... My system restore somehow got turned off, and now is working but has no previous backups[restore points]. Any idea JAWS Lite listers? This is a serious issue, and it would be great if one of you JAWS users could offer a helping hand in the matter.
