Hi List,
After phoning FS tech support about the phone number reading issue and
after talking to Amanda there, who agreed with me, I sent the following
message to the following E-mail address:
Hello,
In a recent discussion on a JAWS mailing list, it was pointed out that
there has been a change in the way JAWS reads telephone numbers, so I
checked it out and discovered that this is indeed true. In fact, the change
took place in the last 2 builds of JAWS 9.0 and has continued in JAWS 10.0;
prior to that, JAWS read phone numbers in the way most people say them.
With number processing controlled by Eloquence and punctuation set to
none, the following phone number, 727-803-8600, used to be read as follows:
seven two seven eight o three eight six o o
Now, the same phone number is read as follows:
seven hundred twenty-seven eight hundred three eighty-six hundred
Incidentally, I just called Freedom Scientific technical support and
talked to Amanda about this. She informed me that she is a JAWS user and
that she, too, has noticed this change and that she does not like this
change either.
I request that you change it back to the way it was in all earlier
versions of JAWS. Incidentally, I have been using JAWS since version 3.5.
Thank you in advance,
(end of message to FS Suggestions)
Amanda also suggested that I ask anyone else who desires this to return
to the way it was, or at least to have the option of setting it that way, to
send a suggestion to that E-mail address as well.
Thanks all,
Don
