I want to share with you all an observation or conclusion I have arrived
at concerning JAWS 8 and Internet Explorer 7. I am currently using Windows
Xp home, and I currently have Tabbed Browsing enabled. I have found that I
have had much better luck when I activate IE buttons with their respective
ALT keys rather than by hitting Enter or the space bar.
no such issue on my side.
Adding a Favorite
If I wish to add a favorite to Internet Explorer, I have found that when I
just hit Enter to add a favorite, JAWS sometimes loses focus and actually
adds that favorite to the next folder down from the one I wished to add it
to. It works much better if I hit ALT+A to activate the Add button. By
doing it that way, JAWS seems to better retain the focus and add the
favorite to the correct folder.
you can try ctrl+d for IE7 to add to favorite.
Closing Internet Explorer
Often when I had wanted to close Internet Explorer when Internet Explorer
says "Do you wish to close all tabs?" I would just hit the space bar to
activate that button as the JAWS tutorial message instructs. This often
locked JAWS up, and for me, the machine would just freeze. If a sighted
person were there, they could perform mouse functions and get me back to
where I was, but when on my own, I would have to turn off my computer at
the power strip to re-boot. I have now found out it works much better to
use ALT+T when Explorer says "Do you wish to close all tabs?" This tends
to avoid the jaws lockups I was having. Simply hitting the space bar or
enter rather than ALT+T seems to make JAWS go into some sort of bad routine
and lock itself up.
as far as i remember, when you hit alt+f4 and IE7 ask you whether to close all
tabs, the first selection on the list is "close tabs"
if you hit spacebar, it will close all the open tabs. this also working fine on
my side.
I hope you find these observations helpful. I wanted to share them with
you all so you might avoid some of the problems I was having.
i hope you can solve your problem.
thanks.
Warmest Regards,
Allan Wong
