[JAWSLite] Re: Fw: JAWS 9.0 update to build 2152 English Version being released later today!

Given the high number of people who are using Vista very successfully and singing its praises over previous incarnations, the question then become is it possibly user error which is to blame for a great many of the so-called disasters of which you speak?

Version 8 seemed to offer nothing of any value over 7.2. Version 9, with
improved Citrix support, looked useful. Then came all the reports of disasters.
I suspect some of those disasters can be linked to FS's attempt to make the

Hi,
I've heard troubling things about version 9, so I'm still on version 8.
Thanks

Support for the beta of IE8, fixes to office 2007 problems and other fixes
here and there. It's not a huge update but probably worth installing I'd say.
It's installed here on both my XP and Vista machine and all seems ok so far.

   Rick,

It talks so much about the Braille updates...for which I am glad for the
Braille users, what does this update do that isn't Braille related?

   Thanks for helping me understand.

later today!

     Hi Rick,
I know that people on the lists are finding the build now and downloading
it, I also want to make sure that people get the write up about it which they
often over look. I extracted the changes since build 552 out of the What's New
Page and posted below. If you can, please post to the JAWS user list.
     Regards,
     Eric

Below is the list of enhancements coming in JAWS 9.0.2152 since the build
552 was released in February.

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 Support
     Unicode Braille Tables Update
The Unicode braille tables in JAWS (JBT files) support multi-cell braille
characters. A multi-cell character is a braille character that requires more
than one braille cell on your braille display. This feature may be of interest
to individuals who use math, science, and language symbols.

     Braille Study Mode
Braille Study Mode is a training tool for teaching and learning braille.
It works exclusively with Freedom Scientific PAC Mate 20- and 40-cell braille
displays and FOCUS 40- and 80-cell braille displays. When enabled, JAWS will
announce the braille character in a display cell when you press the Cursor
Routing button immediately above that cell. When you press the Navrow button
(located behind the Cursor Routing button), JAWS will announce and spell the
braille word.

Braille Study Mode is off by default. To start it, do the following:

1.. Make sure that a PAC Mate Portable Braille Display, FOCUS 40, or
FOCUS 80 braille display is attached to your computer.
2.. Do one of the following:

a.. Press CTRL+INSERT+B to open the Adjust Braille Options dialog box,
or
b.. Press INSERT+V to open the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box.
3.. Press S until Study Mode appears, and then press SPACEBAR to toggle
Study Mode on. Braille Study Mode remains on until toggled off or until JAWS is
restarted.
Braille Study Mode: On-the-Fly Access using WHIZWHEELS
When Braille Study Mode is off, you can always press the braille display's
left or right WHIZWHEEL together with either a Cursor Routing or Navrow button
to briefly use Braille Study Mode functionality. This clever operation gives
you the same braille information without having to turn on Braille Study Mode.
To use Braille Study Mode on the fly, do one of the following:

a.. Press WHIZWHEEL+CURSOR ROUTING to make JAWS announce the braille
character in the display cell, or
b.. Press WHIZWHEEL+NAVROW to make JAWS announce and spell the braille
word.
Note: JAWS returns to normal operation after announcing the braille
character or word.

     Citrix Program Neighborhood
     JAWS 9.0 supports Citrix Program Neighborhood® 10.

     Microsoft PowerPoint 2007
JAWS 9.0 now supports the creation and presentation of PowerPoint 2007
slide shows in Vista and XP.

     USB Thumb Drive Update
The updated USB thumb drive versions of JAWS 9.0 and MAGic 11.0 are now
available. You can now use both products together or individually on the same
thumb drive. In addition, the video intercept tool has been consolidated to
work with both screen reader and screen magnification applications. This tool
can be downloaded and stored on the thumb drive and easily executed on
computers where the Video intercept is not already installed.

     Talking Mouse Support
The MAGic Mouse Echo feature is now available when running MAGic 11.0 and
JAWS 9.0 together. This means that JAWS reads text that you point to with the
mouse. To customize this feature, open the MAGic Speech menu and choose Mouse
Echo. Note that you will need to have the latest update of MAGic 11 installed
to take advantage of this feature. This MAGic update is scheduled to post on
April 28, 2008.

     DAISY Book Addition
A new DAISY book is available. It describes how to create accessible forms
in Microsoft Excel by using input messages and hyperlinks to provide useful
feedback to JAWS and MAGic users.

The following reported items were addressed during the April 2008, build
