Hello eileen,

Sometimes people refer to the sheet tabs in Excel at the bottom of the 
screen as just tabs.  The sheet tabs can be clicked on to change sheets in a 
workbook.  Using JAWS you move sheet to sheet with CTRL page up and CTRL 
page down, or you can list the sheets in the workbook with CTRL-Shift-S and 
then use down or up arrows to move to the sheet you want to go to and press 
enter.  The sheet tabs show on the bottom of the screen if the checkbox to 
show sheet tabs is checked in the view page tab of the options dialog box. 
When you display sheet tabs, a Sheet tab bar appears at the bottom of the 
screen with tab scrolling buttons displayed on the left side.  Perhaps the 
person meant for you to change sheets in the workbook and was referring to 
the sheet tabs.
