[JAWSLite] Re: Core Duo and JAWS

I have two machines that I both use for different things, and I recently 'moved' my e-mail/web use over to the one that only has a 'single' processor which is a 1.7GHz thing, and also has 1Gb of RAM, where the other one which I use for programming etc. has something like the duo-processor around 2 GHz, and 1.5Gb of RAM, and, funny enough I even notice the difference when just reading e-mail etc. where it seems to take somewhere around half a second to a second longer before starting to read an e-mail once it gets opened, and also takes slightly longer to announce my navigation in Windows Explorer etc.

The 'smaller' machine is actually the one I used before I got the second one, but it's actually mildly irritating now I 'expect' something different, so recommending certain configurations for certain things would not be a bad thing although for me the only real irritation is that I know it can be better...

Stay well

Subject: [JAWSLite] Core Duo and JAWS

Good morning,

An interesting observation.

For the past 3 years I have used JAWS with Windows XP on an Intel Pentium-M (1.4Ghz) processor with 512MB RAM. Things worked fairly well, however, I was always frustrated with the lag and jitteriness of JAWS speech if I was listening to music or streaming radio in the background. I am not sure if this is a common issue, but can understand why it could be.

I am now using JAWS on Windows VISTA with a Core Duo (u2500) 1.2Ghz processor and 2GB RAM. I have noticed that there is no interference at all from music or other audio tasks with JAWS speech. This is what I expected might happen when I decided to go with the Duo.

Now, this could be that my new computer has more memory (probably not). I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this jitteriness when using JAWS and other audio programs at the same time and if anyone who has experienced it is using a Duo processor? If it can be determined that jitteriness is a common problem and that the Duo processor releives or eliminates the symptoms then it would be good to suggest to anyone purchasing a new computer to look into the Duo line of processors.

Thanks,
Everett
