[JAWSLite] Re: Be careful of Google Desktop!

The Vista indexer does handle E-mails by default. You can also set the indexer to include everything on the hard drive or whatever specific folders you want indexed. I have not had much experience using Google desktop, but one of my clients has complained that every time she starts her E-mail and thinks that her system is focused in the E-mail list, she notices that she is not and that the Google Desktop takes focus. She can use Alt-tab to move to her list of E-mail messages but this is kind of frustrating to her.

I have to say I have google desktop on an xp laptop and a vista laptop,
and don't have any issues with either. I much prefer the google search
interface. I also am not sure that the vista indexer handles emails
like google desktop does.

Yes, when you first install google desktop it can slow down things a bit
while it does the initial index. If you bring up your list of systray
icons with insert+f10, you can pause the indexing for google desktop, or
stop it altogether, until you're able to let it run overnight.

Subject: [JAWSLite] Be careful of Google Desktop!

Hello to all:

I wanted to tell you about a problem I had with my computer
which began a
couple weeks ago. I started noticing that my computer was
not responding
as fast as before, but worst of all, when I would turn on my computer,
sometimes JAWS would not come up or start at all, and I would
have to shut
down even a few times to get it to start. So after I told
myself to calm
down and not panick, I started trying to think about any
changes I could
have possibly made. I also downloaded and installed the
latest update to
the RealNetworks Rhapsody Music Service. At that time, I was prompted
about whether I wanted to install Google Desktop, and I inadvertantly
clicked Yes. And then I thought, "Well, why not try it?" It
finally hit
me that this program is indexing my computer in order to
allow its searches
and that it probably needs to start before anything else. I
uninstalled it
on Saturday, and I have been fine ever since. And a friend
told me tonight
that if you haveWindows Fista on your machine, you definitly
don't want
Google Desktop since that functionality is already a component of
Vista. If Google Desktop is currently on your computer, I
advise that you
uninstall it.
