Smart choice.  Microsoft Security Essentials works very well.  I have been
using it since June.

I believe the notification your receiving is;
your being asked to upgrade from AVG 8, to version 9.

I received this message the other day, apparently, there will be no updates 
for version 8 as of December 1.

I decided to go with,
the new Microsoft security essentials.
