Hello there,
I am currently using Jaws 4.5 and a Hauppauge PVr 150 TV card to do what you
wish to do.
I mainly use this system to record from my cable system to computer, do some
editing and then reburn this file to a DVD.
I am quite happy with this system but need to tell you the gotcha's..
when I first bought this system, it was fantastic.
it came with the PCI TV card...I was able to install this on my own as I had
sight years back when I first became a computer nerd.
it came bundled with ULead Movie Factory 3 SE software to do the editing and
DVD mastering.
I was able to get to most of the stuff I needed without writing scripts for
my Jaws 4.5
But to get to some interesting features I had a friend come by and help me
with the aid of Jaws find the most inportant icons on the screen.
and write some very basic scripts to move the Jaws cursor to the correct x,
y coordinates and then click once to activate the icon.
the capturing went well, but the gotcha came when I went to master this file
so I could burn to DVD.
A one hour video clip took 1 hour to master then burn.
a 2 hour video clip took 2 hours to master then burn.
this was on a 2.8 gigahertz Pentium 4 system with 1 gig of RAM.
I kind of lost interest in this process as it took so long to work to get a
single DVD.
I saved up my money and then got a 3.2 gigaherts Pentium 4 system with
hyper-threading.
this was before dual core CPU motherboards. somehow the hyper threading
makes the motherboard "look" like it has 2 CPU's to work with.
Put the TV card into this system and went to capture/edit/create a DVD...man
o man it was so much faster.
a 3 hour video capture was mastered in 45 minutes.
I can't imagine how much faster this will go when I can afford to buy a
system with 2 CPU's on the motherboard.
the second gotcha was the TV card came bundled with a simple MPEG-2 video
editor. Can't recall the name.
had to write scripts for it as it was heavy with icons.
and the editing was slow...so very slow.
I've since started to use something called Video ReDo Plus.
a for sale program that edits MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video clips quite fast.
I use this to capture TV programs and take commercials out of the programs.
When I am not capturing cable TV programs..I am taking old VCR tapes and
moving them over to computer.
this will not work if the Tapes are macrovision protected.
but the TV card can take a cable wire for input or a VCR wire for input.
Years back I spent $99 for this TV card.
