Hi Paul, If it really is the fan, you should be very cautious about using the pc until you have had the machine checked. The processor fan keeps the processor cool enough to operate and if it reaches a temperature which exceeds it's normal working level, it could damage your processor and cost you a lot of cash. Sometimes fans fail because they are working most or all of the time and are mechanical but sometimes it is just a matter of something having touched the fan blades and only needs moving out of the way. Normally this wouldn't be a real problem but before whilst typing an E-mail, I suddenly heard this white noise which I thought was coming through my speakers. JAWS however was unaffected and so I caried on typing my E-mail and managed to send it withoutany bother. I then decided to switch off my machine and that is when I noticed that it was the fan making this white noise. This has only happened once but I wonder what it is and why it has happened and should I be concerned about it at all? hope you can help.
