[jaws-uk] Re: uninstalling JFW

Hi Colin,

There have been issues with Jaws 7.1 and I am not particulary happy with it
myself. I have been using Jaws since 3.7 and I can't help feeling this is
the worst version. I understand that Freedom Scientific are anticipating
future developments in Windows and the problems with 7.1 may well magically
resolve later.

There is a function called "Legacy" on the Misc page of HTML under
Configuration Manager which allows Jaws to operate like older versions which
you may find helpful for the time being. This button would need to be
checked. I would be inclined to make this change application specific
rather than default.

I would also recommend that you always keep a previous version of Jaws on
your system if you have one.

Best of luck

David

Hi Marie/all,
I'm also keen to hear the answers to Marie's question, but I'd also like to
raise a similar query of my own. Unlike Marie, I prefer not to have more
than one version of Jaws on my system because I've always found that my PC
has a propensity to load the wrong version at inconvenient moments. When I
installed 7.1 I expected it to overwrite 7.0. When I found myself with both
versions, I uninstalled 7.0. Although I decided that it was prudent to keep
the shared files, Jaws hasn't worked at all well since. One obvious problem
is that the keys on my Handy Tech Braillewave generally require two or three
presses in order to produce any response. Before I clean Jaws out
completely and start again, can anyone tell me whether my problems are due
to 7.1. or to the way in which I installed it?

Cheers

Colin

Hi all,
I usually keep 2 versions of the shark on my pc in case the most recent one
does not do what I want in some applications.
I have downloaded 7.1 and will therefore uninstall 6.0. When I use the
uninstall utility in the maintenance part of the program, it gives me the
option of uninstalling the shared components.
In the past, I've always chose not to do this as I thought it would disrupt
the current version.
Is this the right thing to do or should I uninstall the shared components
and provided i install 7.1 straightaway everything would be fine
When I run the event viewer, I notice some errors where JFW is mentionned,
does this mean some files are corrupted? ?
why is the program working properly most of the time then?
I thought that in the computer world everything was either black or white,
it worked or it didn't, on my system, I increasingly find lots of stuf
sometimes work and sometimes doesn't. What could be the reason for this?
Looking forward to your thoughts and comments.

Cheers now,

Marie
