You should try going into the "recorder" menu before going through the CD
writing wizard. Select "choose recorder" and make sure the correct drive is
located in the list and tab to "OK" button and confirm it. If you have a
system with more than one optical drive it may not be talking to the right one.
It is also possible you have "burn at maximum speed" checbox checked in the
wizard. I would uncheck this because I think (although not certain) that it
attempts a write at the drives top speed not that of the medium.
