hi tink, thanks for that info. yes i am a jaws user. do you have a shuffle? and
if so, do you listen to books on it? i am thinking how useful it would be when
on holiday, instead of taking a caseful of machine and books.

Of course, this being the Jaws UK list, you probably are a Jaws user.
*Smile. I'll start paying attention anytime now.

  Jim,

The Shuffle itself is perfectly accessible, having only two buttons and
no screen.

The first button is a slide switch with 3 positions. Off, Play in
shuffled order, and Play in normal order.

The second button is a circular multi-directional button. Pressing up and
down raises/lowers the volume, pressing left or right rewinds/forward winds the
track, pressing in the centre plays or pauses the track.

Unfortunately, Itunes, the software needed to transfer files to and from
the Shuffle is not accessible. If you are a Jaws user, Brian Hartgen of T&T
Consultancy has developed some Jaws scripts that will bridge the gap between
the two technologies. Sadly I don't know of an option for other screen readers
though.
