[jaws-uk] Re: greater than signs

Susan
The Jaws Dictionary Manager allows you to tailor individual applications to=
speak as you want when encountering specific words and symbols. Jaws also=
has a Global Dictionary which applies to all applications. If you change =
the Global Dictionary, you will never hear a greater than sign spoken again=
in anything you run on the computer, which is probably not a good idea. =20

If you change the Outlook Express Dictionary in the manner Maggie suggests,=
greater than signs will be ignored in all Email messages you read, includi=
ng any legitimate ones which may have been included in the text of a messag=
e. If you are aware that this can happen, then Maggie's solution will be f=
ine.

The Dictionary Manager is usually used for words that Jaws mispronounces,fo=
r example the town of Lichfield is mispronounced by Jaws as Lickfield but y=
ou could make a dictionary entry which tels Jaws that when it encounters th=
e word Lichfield, it should say Litchfield. =20

hi Maggie,

this sounds really great as I found those greater greater things a darn nui=
sance, but
tell me, do I carry out your instructions whilst in an email or just when I=
'm sitting
in outlook express?

If it is in an email do I repeat your instructions in every individual emai=
l that
just happens to have them in it. as you know it's not all emails that have =
those
little greater pests. Or is it a permanent thing and once it's done it's fo=
r good?

Hi dorothy,

Greater than signs are really easy to get rid of. All you do is press
insert + D to bring up dictionary manager. Press spacebar to add word. In
the edit box where Jaws says 'actual word', type a greater than sign. Tab
round to 'replacement word' and press spacebar. Then tab round to OK to
save changes. Job done.

Regards

Maggie
