First question, Yes.
Second question, I don't beleive you'd gain much purchasing the new version. 
I suspect that the only adnvatage you'd get is avoiding the irritating 
pop-up advertising updates et cetera.
I have been using Zone Alarm for a long time and find it very reliable. My 
version was installed automatically when BT pushed me over to BTYahoo. I 
have learned to ignore their update suggestions.
