well the ones i tried last night didn't look like they were really free or if they were they had limitations. the defrag software for example still had an option to get a full membership and had adds on the main screen when you ran it.

as for disk backup, most people have nero on their computer if they have a cd or dvd writer and you can make backup images to cd, dvd or a separate hard disk or partition with that.

win rar is a really good program when it comes to archives but i'm not sure if the latest version covers the new winzip multiple archives where the zip file is split in to lots of small files to reduce the risk of damaged files. if you really can get a full version of winrar for free though and there's no catches i'd take it.

Dear Dorothy and list:

Where an article is unsigned and you wish to write to the paper
or magazine about it, you would direct your comments to the
Editor of the paper or magazine. They in turn will pass your
comments on to the person who wrote the article or respond to
your letter themselves, as they take responsibility for such
articles.

I found some interesting programs mentioned in Computer Shopper I
believe for February.

Its amazing the various programs software firms permit the free
use of for home use.

The http://www.netstumble.org site had several programs for the
management and monitoring of a wireless network that are free for
home use.

http://www.runtime.org has a disk imaging and restore program
that is also free for home use.

http://www.rarlab.com has WINRAR, a file compression and
extraction program reputed to make more compact archives than
WinZip. That is probably comparing it to WinZip 10.0, not sure
if WinZip 11.1, the version I am running outperforms it.
