  Hi Barbara.

If there is someone who can assist you, I would be tempted to back up all
important work and do a complete reformat, particularly if an attempt at a
system restore does not solve the problem. This does sound drastic I know but
it will probably result in a system which runs faster anyway and you could end
up spending quite a lot of time resolving the problems.

by the way, are there other members of the household that use the PC or is
there only you? These days, providing a system is up to date, much of the
spyware is transmitted by people going to dodgy websites which run unwanted
programs on the PC in various ways. This can happen easily. One way this can
happen is if you accidentally misspell a website.

Anyway, good luck with system restore or even total reformatting.

  Regards

Hi Barbara, I think Tom's suggestion is good right now.

I don't want to sound like a profit of doom, but if you are getting bombed
out of an AVG update, it could be a worry. Likewise a JAWS update.

Have you tried simply updating AVG 7.5? It is still being supported until
the end of this year.

I would also suggest you do a Windows Update, and just go for the critical
security updates.

If all else fails, it may be that you could go for a System restore, to a
date prior to the present problems.

  George.

Thanks to all who gave me advice re my PC problems. I am going to update all
security software and give the PC a good clean and see what happens.

I have installed AVG 7.5 for now and am trying to update JAWS 9 so I can
install AVG 8. Whenever I try to open the link Phil sent me to free AVG 8, the
Internet closes, so not sure if the problem is me or then.

Also, I have downloaded the latest May JAWS 9 update but whenever I select
the saved application and Enter on it nothing happens. If I use the JAWS Cursor
and Left Mouse Button a rename file window appears.

Any ideas? I'm having one of those days when you wish computers had never
been invented!
