Pete, Kevin and List,
I used both CDEX and Goldwave (costs about 45 US dollars) to copy cassettes
but found the controls on Goldwave easier to use. Having to continually
Alt+Tab to regain focus in CDEX was a bit irksome at times.
One major problem I encountered after using both was that I couldn't get
into the on-line database to identify tracks from the cassettes. This meant
that when I tried to burn these tracks onto a CD using Windows Media Player,
an error message appeared stating that WMP could not determine the length of
each track. I only managed to resolve the problem with the help of my
sighted son.

Kevin,
You can connect a cassette player to the inline socket of your sound card on
the desktop and use CDEx, it is free and has such a recording function, you
can choose whether you want your recordings to be in .wav or .mp3 format.
Regards,
Pete H.
