Thanks for the suggestion, Flor, but as I understand it, the Voice Aliases
Dialogue is to create and modify a set of voices which then the Sound
Manager
determines how and when Jaws uses them. Even though, I went there and had a
second look but no luck. I have a feeling that there's some setting
somewhere else than the Speech and Sounds Manager which has to be changed
for Jaws to do what I want. Something like when Jaws announces caps letters
or when to indicate them etc. I can't go and do true or false experiment
though, Jaws 6 has hundreds of options to go thru and the results won't be
accurate anyway. I still can't see why Jaws can change voice on the fly when
it comes across a text between two quotes but not when the font changes.
Sorry to keep ranting about this but I quite like to find a solution to my
dilemma! <Smile>
Cheers,
Amro whose his head can't take more scratching!

Have you explored the Voice Aliases Dialogue? Potential solution may be
there.

Hi Matthew and all,
Thanks a lot for the instructions, Matthew, but I still can't get Jaws
to
use the sound I specify while in (Say All) mode i.e. (Insert + Down
Arrow).
If I navigate a document line by line using the up and down arrows, Jaws
switches voices otherwise it doesn't. I even tried using and editing the
Proofreading (Attributes and Fonts Info) scheme but that didn't do the
trick
either. I started to wonder if Jaws can actually switch voices on the
fly?
But I can't see why not as it does when encountering a text in quotes
and
some other situations too. I've almost red everything in the help files
but
couldn't find an answer. However, your instructions did half the job as
it
were, and helped me to understand the Sounds Scheme dialog box better.
At
least now I kind of know what I am doing!
Hope you or someone else can help with this matter or suggest an
alternative
method to get what I want out of Jaws. I ran out of ideas!
TIA,
Amro

Hi,
I'm not sure that your exact criterion can be specified in the Speech
and Sounds Manager, but I'll give you the closest match.
Synopsis: JAWS will change voice on bold text.
1. Press JAWSKey+NumRow6 for the Configuration Manager.
2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+D for the default file.
3. Press ALT+S for Set Options.
4. Press M for Speech and Sounds Manager.
5. Press ALT+A for Save Current Scheme as.
6. Type in
Classic with Bold
7. Press ALT+E for Edit Current Scheme.
8. Copy the lines till the end of this step into the description
field:
JAWS will behave like prior versions, but with Bold spoken in a
different voice.
9. CTRL+TAB three times to the Attributes Page.
10. Press ALT+A for Add.
11. Check the Bold Checkbox and press Enter.
12. From the group of radio buttons, choose Speak Item Text using
Voice
and then press Enter.
13. From the list view, choose the Bold voice and press Enter.
14. Press Enter again, then ALT+S to save the scheme.
15. Tab to the OK Button and press the Space Bar.
16. Now press CTRL+S to save the JCF file and ALT+F4 to get out of
the
configuration manager.
All done!
I've made the scheme following my own steps to make sure they work, so
if you'd prefer, contact
drjaws@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
off-list and I'll send the scheme so you can use settings packager to
import it.

Hi everyone,
I wonder if someone could help me please with setting up a speech
scheme
in
Jaws 6.10? All I want from Jaws to do is, when in read all mode, to
read
the
bold font using a different voice I choose so I can identify headers
and
titles. I'm not sure if one of the sound schemes already in Jaws does
that
actually. I've tried referring to the help files and messing with the
sound
configurations a little bit but I'm not getting too far.
TIA,
Amro
