I hate the British voices too. They sound a little more like south african in places. I've always liked Elloquence, and actually find it very difficult to deal with any other synth now. ----- Original Message ----- From: Colin Baxter To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, April 17, 2005 8:47 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Shutting up eloquence. Hi all, I'm surprised by this thread on two counts. The reluctance of Jaws to shut up is a problem that I have encountered before, but certainly not as recently as in Jaws 5.0 or 6.0. My machine, which generally suffers from all known ailments, shuts up the instant you touch almost any key. As for Eloquence, I used to dislike it, but have gradually come to prefer it to everything else, i.e. so long as you stay away from the British voices. They really are appalling. Most of the time, I don't even notice the American accent. I've been using Jaws with the synthesizer called Text Assist for 9 years, but it don't work with XP, to which I recently upgraded, so I've had to use the awful Eloquence. Actually there are some features which this does better, but if I have it yakking away and try to stop it with the Control key, it usually takes a very long time to react. Any ideas? JFW 5.1 and Sound Blaster 5.12, if that matters. ----- Original Message ----- From: tiddy ogg To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, April 16, 2005 3:37 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] test - please ignore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message.
