[jaws-uk] Re: Scan disk for errors.

Hi Alex,

If you don't mind running things from the run dialogue, you can always type:
chkdsk followed by a space then the drive letter immediately followed by a
colon and another space then /r

The /r will indicate to chkdsk that it must locate and try to correct faulty
sectors.

If the drive is the system also you will be told that it can't be run
immediately and asked if you want it to be run the next time you restart the
system. If you answer y to this question, you will have to wait a
considerable time before the next boot because Jaws can't work while the
check is in progress.

I've never run scandisk, I looked for it in accessories but it doesn't seem
to be there, nor in control panel. I used to run the equivalent on my old
win98 machine so any help with using scandisk with windows xp from anyone
would be appreciated. Where is it and how do I use it.

Hi.

I have a C and D drive on my machine and I'm wondering if when you set up
the scan disk option from my computer, if you can ask it to scan the C and D
drive at the same time as you have to re-start the machine in order for the
scan to take place. I've just done a scan, and after it had finished,
instead of the computer going back into Windows, like it normally does, it
shut down. Can anyone tell me why it would do this as I thought that once
the scan had been completed, the machine went back into Windows again like
it does when it starts up. I don't think it's ever shut down before so can
someone explain this to me?

Thanks.
Sue.
